I think Tesco have gone up a lot recently - maybe because they seem to be dropping lots of their own brand or value ranges - or is this just on-line?
  • Me and hubby have found that asda is a little cheaper but not overly...The cheap products in asda appear to be less quality in asda.
For example we buy beef mince every week for various meals
Asda do a smart price for around 99p for a small box
Tesco do a market value pack for £1.00 but the mince is lovely not chewy and has hardly and ounce of fat on it.
It depends what you are prepared to put up with I guess?

For the boring bit....if you are going to buy value food in supermarkets just be careful as the cheaper the food the more chemicals/additives/sugar/salt there seems to be...tesco again seems to be abit better at not doing this :)

Come down to personal preference I think x

I used to be a Tesco devotee but swapped to Asda about 18 months ago and haven't gone back. I go to Tesco about once every 2 months and wince at some of the prices but it does depend on what you are buying.

My Local Asda (Dewsbury) has dropped most of my fave Smartprice lines.

So now it's not so cheap for me.

Tesco has also dropped a lot of the basics lines.

  • For me, Tesco always works out cheaper on a full shop, although Asda can be cheaper on individual items, and of course it depends on whether there is an offer (e.g. BOGOF) on something I actually want. I check online before I go as to who will give me the best price (including offers) before I choose where I go ( I know, very sad). It's not often that Asda works out cheaper.
I only shop for 2 adults, though, so it could be that stuff for kids puts Asda cheaper

Sainsburys would appear to be getting cheaper, comparitively speaking. Just a shame there isn't one near me.

  • I have nothing useful to say on this matter , other than i prefer Asda.

    But who really cares??

Ive only posted this so i can get a 'thanks' from barneysmom who has thanked several previous posters for their personal preferences!!
