Tesco or Asda? Which is cheaper?

Hi

For the last year I have been shopping as Asda as its the closest supermarket to us (although a little out of the way).....but only last week a large tesco opened near us and its on the way back from work.

Which of the two is cheaper for a typical food shop? I keep hearing different things on tv about baskets of good are cheaper in tesco etc....

There is no true answer, it is all dependent on what you buy. I will bet that a lot of people say Asda though, because there is a ridiculous anti-Tesco brigade on this site that do everything they can to shoot the store down in flames.

Depends what a 'typical shop' is! Some items will be cheaper at Asda, others at Tesco. Your best bet is to shop around, but generally I find Asda better as I would rather cheaper prices in the first place rather than clubcard points.
  • i say asda!I shop there pretty much every week even though its 20 mins away! we have a huge tescos close to us which i really like but when i shop there for my weekly shop it always seems to be more than when i shop at asda?! not really sure why if its because tescos is more expensive than asda or whether i end up buying more or different brands of things while in tescos!

onetoomany, what packet mixes are they?

I'd say Asda was the cheapest, Tesco Express is very expensive, at least our one is anyway. I won't go in there any more.

Express sites are more expensive than standard Tesco prices.

I would say Asda is cheaper, but if you count the clubcard points at tesco, maybe they are around the same...

Nah would still say asda are a bit cheaper overall:beer: and in our local the staff are nicer at Asda.

If you go for own brand stuff then I'd say Asda was slightly cheaper - but it tastes a LOT cheaper!
Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree! :D
  • have you tried shopping online with moneysupermarket. I do this and my shop is always about £15 cheaper in tesco than asda but people are right it depends on what you buy. This may give you a better idea of whats right for you. If you don't want to pay for delivery--just print off the shopping list !!
