I work in an accountancy firm. Small, Local 40 employees. I should be OK if our clients are but with a large amount of them taxi drivers, local garages and used car sellers and quite a few BTL landlords it would be unrealistic to think that all will survive.

I got out of the rat race and retired very young and do not miss at all slaving for a wage...good luck all who are in a unsafe job...
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

I'm a freelance book editor, working on books to be sold to academics & law firms. I'm busier than I've ever been at the moment, although it's probably on books that were comissioned a year or more ago. I'm hoping that I'm reasonably recession proof, because as long as there are universities there will be academics writing books, and as long as there are new statutes & new case law, there will be solicitors looking for books to bring them up to date. And since I'm freelance, I'm already as cost-effective as I'm going to be because I get paid per project, with no holiday & sick pay etc for my clients to worry about.

Of course, if I still worked in-house that would be different, but they already made 90 per cent of my old department redundant in the publisher where I used to work - which is not an unusual scenario - to be honest I think in my particular corner of the industry in the last few years they've already cut costs as far as they can without closing down completely, so maybe things will stay steady.

I'm the Chancellor of the Exchequer, and I'm busier than than I've ever been. I'd like to think that means that my job's safe, but...

I am an accountant, working for a manufacturer who is mainly exporting... Making machines for the food industry. Only 10% of our sales are in UK.

People always need food - food companies still need machines. If not new ones then servicing for the old ones. We mainly sell abroad - India, Japan, Australia, Europe... you name it, we supply there.
Thanks to weak £ we get more £ for our dollar&euro sales..

So far so good, however feeling a pressure from our UK suppliers who are getting hysterical about payments. The other day supplier with supplies to us of circa £50k a month put me on stop for 3 days overdue £500 invoice!!

The cashflow balance act will be tough...
  • Just a funny little aside...

It was the high number of crem forms that alerted other GPs and funeral directors to Harold Shipman!

I ama veterinary nurse, there is allegedly a shortage of 3000 of us in the UK so I should be ok!
Give yourself a Chistmas bonus £14 a week!
