dvs have you checked all 3 of the credit agencies to see if you have a CIFAS report on there? Are you on the electoral register?

At the time of applying for the Barclays account in December, the Experian credit report showed no signs of bankruptcy or any or missed payments on any of my accounts. Nor did it show any adverse information such as CIFAS or GAIN. Today it shows my bankruptcy. Having just checked my Equifax credit report today, there is no mention of bankruptcy or any CIFAS information.

Barclays was a creditor in my bankruptcy. I applied the day after my bankruptcy. At that time I had missed one payment by a few days on one account and I was over my limit by £100 on another account. All payments up to this point were in good order. I am on the electoral register and my driving licence matched my address.

As I seem to be the only one declined, I'm wondering if the staff member processing my application put through a normal current account instead? She was doing the hard sell on me and I explained to her that I had gone bankrupt so I was only eligible for a basic account. I wonder if she thought she'd just try a normal account to see if it would be accepted? Thinking back, she didn't really seem to know what she was doing as she was flicking back and forth through the screens.

I've got the Co-op account and I'm quite happy with it to be honest. The only thing that bothers me a little is the Electron card but it's only been a problem when buying a rail ticket so far.
  • I bet that is what has happened dvs, is it worth going back in and trying again for the Cashcard account?
I too have had a couple of problems with the electron card and am going to try for a Barclays account.

I think I will enquire and find out if it was a normal current account that I applied for. May assist others knowing what the score is. Does anyone know what type of search would be completed on my credit report - just an ID check or a normal search?
  • well i asked to upgrade my cash card account to a electron+online banking and at the same time i applied online for a no overdraft proper barclays account, which asked "are you bankrupt" (did i mention im discharged?)

both seem to be accepted....so far
  • Are you discharged Max?!!

I sent my application in the post so I hope to hear at some point before I die. Interested to hear they give out Visa Debit cards - not electron or connect cards. Won't be so embarrassing when I go to pay for my Anusol at the STD clinic!

I went for the Co-Op one as didn't have the time to venture down to my local Barclays.
I incidentedly ran off my Experian report the following day and it just shows as a "Identification: generic check".
So its just an ID one for the Co-op, would imagine it would be the same for Barclays
Money, money, money. Must be funny, in a rich man's world.
