Weekly Spend Challenge W/C 18th Jan

This challenge used to run every week (thanks to Moozie and PAP) but I have not seen it in a while so I hope no one minds but I need this to keep me on track ...

Hello everyone a010.gif. Welcome to the weekly spend challenege. This challenge is open to anybody, no matter what financial place they are in.

On this thread please post an amount of money you wish to stay below within the week (Sunday to end of working day on Friday). This can be pennies or thousands it depends on the individual. Then next Saturday report back and pledge for the following week. Feel free to update this thread with daily spends if that keeps you on track.

This is a little bit of fun but for many it highlights the fact that maybe that magazine/chocolate bar isn't needed. Hopefully your spending habits can be changed forever. clapping.gif

Moozie was the founder of this challenge and here is a quote taken from her around last year

The challenge is about incidental spending and not for stuff that should be budgeted elsewhere such as bills, groceries, debt repayment etc but you decide what to include at the end - this is about changing your habits and improving your recording of your spends more than anything else. Have a great week everyone and keep it low!!! Moozie x

Good luck everyone.:T

  • I had a really bad week last week. Not even sure how much I spent (haven't been brave enough to add it up from my spending diary :o) I am putting this down to exam stress (roll on Monday)

Anyway please let us know how you got on last week and what your pledge is for this week. I am going for £30 and going to see how my new system of only have the card for the account with no overdraft and only has my weekly budget in it. I notice the weeks where I have limited access to cash seem to go well. This will not include groceries but will include extra treat type food and anything else I buy that is not included in another budget.

I have updated the results and pledges from last week's thread. A big :Tto all those that are green.

If you are new please feel free to join us the more the merrier and all that.

    Hi pointypenguin,

I hope your exams went well. I just finished a masters degree last year and I completely sympathise. Studying can take a lot out of you. You deserve to spend a little extra.

I spent £17.99 of my £20 last week - so I did reasonably well.

I know next week will be a little trickier, as I've arranged a night out. Usually this means me throwing caution to the wind and spending too much.

So, this week I'm upping my budget to £30. Again, including everything. Hopefully I'll manage it, as long as I stop wasting it all!

(I was tempted to say £40 - but I think the more money I allow myself, the more I'll feel compelled to spend it.)

    Babs

    Looking forward to the future.

I'm fuming already, as I've had to use nearly £4 of my budget to suppliment this week's groceries. My OH (who is not vain) has to have his special shampoo (only ElViVe dandruff shampoo keeps the dreaded white stuff at bay - believe me, we spent 5 years experimenting with different types!), and his coffee - you know, the old bean-shaking variety? So that £7.50 that I didn't account for! Not taking him shopping again!

So, I have less left than I wanted, (though if I'm honest, I only ever take £10 of my personal spends money out of the bank.)

    But we'll manage! :)

    Good luck all.
    Natwest CC - [STRIKE]£2545[/STRIKE] now £0 :j
Overdraft - £2668 - to be cleared by February 2010

  • Please could I join in with this? I need to stop buying lunches at work, I've already weaned myself off magazines, and I'm on a diet so I don't need to buy chocolate :D so I think I should be able to stick to £30 (I have 2 kids and they always need 'something', school trips, birthday parties, clothing etc - otherwise I'd try to go a bit lower).
  • Hi all!! Can you put me down for £20 again please! I've got to send something back special delivery so £10 would be pushing it!!
    Just keep swimming
  • Thanks babs, exams are a nightmare but I still have a long way to go as I am in first year of a part-time 5 year course . Good luck with your night out hope you manage to stick to budget.

Raychee mine boyf is the same, he uses t-gel shampoo (again the only thing that works well) but conviniently he never seems to buy it, it is always me

Welcome  AlwaysAngelic hope you have a good week it can be hard with kids (not that I have them, I can only imagine:D)

Hey Diana well done on last week. Don't you think it is terrible how unreliable Royal Mail are that we have to pay loads to get things sent special delivery just to know they will arrive.
