Buyer with 100% rating trying it on

I've been selling a few things over the past couple of weeks - no problems at all, all positive feedback and have made a bit of extra money to pay for Christmas!

2 days ago, someone contacted me to ask if buyerX had been in touch with me saying his item hadn't arrived - as he'd done the same to him and he thought his buying history looked a bit suspicious.

Lo and behold, last night I got a message from buyerX saying...his item hadn't arrived!! Looked at his history - he has bought 20 of the same DVD (its quite in demand and sells for £10-£15 each time) in the last 2 weeks. Looked at his feedback - 460 odd rating at 100%, but a couple of messages saying "thanks for the understanding about the lost item" and some negative feedback left by him to others saying "DVD not arrived - refund not offered".

Its obviously some scam he's pulling. I'm so angry. Firstly that I left positive feedback (he's a very quick payer) which I can't now retract. But more that he's abusing people's good nature and I suspect is making a tidy profit "buying" - getting a refund - then selling on. Obviously he doesn't do this every time - I wonder if he just does it to people who have already left positive feedback so they can't retract it.

Some people really are little *****!!

Will he be able to claim a refund? Will he even persue this? I've reported him and made it very clear in my reply to his message (but in an ever such polite way!) that I knew what he was up to. Guess I'll get a negative feedback and a claim through paypal to sort out though.

Just be aware of someone buying a couple of particular items at a slightly inflated price. I'm happy to provide details if you PM me - don't think I'll be allowed to say the person's name on here.

is it possible to contact other sellers that have been "ripped off by him"? i would perhaps try this and then perhaps try to get them to contact ebay about this buyer, best way to avoid this is to send it recorded delivery costs more but you have the reasurrance that it has arrived somewhere, i always send my dvd's and higher value items by recorded - special delivery.
  • I think that's what someone else has been doing - like I say, I was contacted 2 days ago by someone warning me that he would probably ask for a refund. I've contacted people selling the DVD in question (he seems to buy them all!) and warned them. Hopefully ebay will look into it. I just can't understand how someone could have the conscience to do what he's doing.

I had this happen to me. The other seller was a power seller and contacted eBay. The buyer was removed (although I am not sure if it was because of the Powerseller's contact or some other reason).

As for sending goods recorded, it is a waste of money. See other threads for discussion on this. Paypal accept Special Delivery as proof of delivery.

Refund the money (it is pointless you going through a Paypal claim) and fill in a compensation claim form. If there are too many parcels going missing at a particular address, Royal Mail will will look into (assuming everyone has put in lost item claims) - sure Custardy will be able to clarify this.

As for having 100%, well that's hardly surprising as sellers can't leave a negative. I always leave feedback after receiving feedback (and before anybody disputes this, it is as per eBay guidelines)

i am shocked that someone would try this as people are going to realise after a while, totally unfair, especially as a buyer you cannot leave negative anymore - that is totally stupid, i have had a small percentage "not paid for" and it makes me so cross that you cannot leave negative anymore, i mean what is the point - we should be able to leave negative to let other sellers - buyers know that this person is not 100% reliable.

i hope you can get this sorted in your favour - i have even sent dvd's and had them returned as buyer has not collected it or not at this address, they have been sent recorded.

one person from poland i think it was or possibly romania was going to buy a new little girls coat from me, she played up all along, not paying, i gave her many chances more than normal then about 3 - 4 weeks after auction ended she made me an "offer" a lot less than what she won it for, hasten to add i dont send abroad now unless buyer has good feedback and emails me first,, although this is no guarantee she had such an attitude if i didnt accept the offer i could leave negative against her if i wanted she just didnt care.

I've contacted him saying that I'm sorry his parcel has got lost in the post and maybe he should check his delivery address details as an awful lot of his items seem to go missing. Don't want to give him a refund then chase it up. Ebay will have to do something about him - 5 of us now in a week have had the same "lost item" message from him.

I would not refund until he pursues you though paypal. Buyers like this only get away with it because sellers will refund a small sum rather than get a neg. If he make a lot of claims through paypal this will be flagged up on his account and he may eventually get NARU'd so all the negs he leaves will be removed.

have i got this right he is claiming not delivered then listing them on ebay himself? do you have proof of postage? i would try and tactfully let him know his games up, although it would seem you are trying this. i would perhaps do as others on ebay say you have proof of postage and you will do everything to help him recover his lost dvd. see what he or she says?

Might be worth pointing this out to him (maybe even contacting royal mail??)

i would try royal mail as i had a parcel go missing a while ago, i was buyer and seller or royal mail, sent a form out and i had to fill in some details. not sure what happens once form returned? seller was very fair and sent another out, not sure if she though i was trying it on, but i genuinely did not receive it, i think it was a problem at the sorting office somewhere as they had 2 other parcels go missing at the same time.
