Barclays Bank

As a personal customer, I have just tried to transfer money from Barclays to the Royal Bank of Scotland. For the first time, I was advised that I need to have PinSentry before I can move any money from my accounts!!!!
How dare they! If they go down, my husband & I would be over-exposed in terms of the £50k per person limitation. These are our life savings/investments and in order to ensure that we are within the limits, I tried to move some of the funds which are in my name to allow us to move some of the amount in my husbands name into mine.
Has anyone else experienced anything like this today?
I intend to go into the branch tomorrow and remove every penny in cash which is available to me! Unfortunately, some of the investment is in a 9 month bond which they say you have to either die or go bankrupt in order to extract your funds. These conditions, hopefully, will not appy, so we are committed for the 9 months in that instance.

If someone phoned barclays and transfered money from your account just using your date of birth and mothers maiden name would you be happy? thought not, its there for security to protect you and money lost from banks.
They wouldn't not let you transfer money you just don't have the right amount of security, they have third party transaction limits and are bringing in first party transaction limits in soon to so you need a pass code or online banking to transfer in between accounts.
Again though this is for your security and not to stop you taking money elsewhere.0 -
You can effect the transfer through telephone banking, I believe, although you need to be registered.0

So, security of your funds is not important to you then? I really despise of customers like you who feel that you are obliged to 'slag' a company off that is actually protecting your funds, unbelieveable really. Oh well, one less ignorant customer I guess!:rolleyes:Personal Banker at Barclays0 -

I think the fact is that if the security device is required, it should be automatically sent out, rather than the customer being informed only when they attempt to make the transaction.
As an example, this evening I tried to move some money from my Tesco Internet Saver - I now have a wait of up to 15 days for a card reader to be delivered, something which was only stated after I attempted to make the withdrawal!0 -

....and " one less ignorant customer " that actually pays your wages.
If I worked for Barclays I would not be throwing insults like that in their present shaky position, you may well be glad of a few " ignorant customers " the way things are going.:rolleyes:0 -
45% being slashed off the Barclays share price in just a few days worries me quite a bit! I'm sure Barclays will do ok thoughCashback Earnt so far in 2009: AMEX £133.93, wepromiseto.co.uk £67.07, Barclaycard £25, MobilePhoneExchange: £28. TOTAL: £254.000

The short selling have been allowed again after a ban, and unfortunately for Barclays, they're the worst hit. It would be interesting what will happen on monday when stock market reopens. I always see Barclays as a corrupt, immoral bank because of its unfavourable tactics treatment with customers. They are not a honest bank, they are often a bully bank, unlike its rivals.0 -

How come you are only a personal banker StAnToN?
Your promising attitude should have elevated you to managerial status by now, surely.
Barclays are lucky to have you! And you, them!0 -
When I tried to move money out of my RBS account online it came up saying I needed a card reader. I didn't have one. I ordered it. It arrived 5 days later. Et voila.
More security = More happy customer!Kavanne
Nuns! Nuns! Reverse!

I have had this account for some considerable time and not been told that I would need PinSentry to send money anywhere, before yesterday. I tried different amounts in case there was a value limit. Why should this only pop up yesterday? OK Mr/s Personal Banker, tell me what criteria has provoked this sudden requirement?
I welcome security, but this is an unexpected obstructive move by Barclays. I was trying to comply with the advice which has been publicised by the FSA. I take it you've heard of them, StAnToN?Irene0
