It would appear that some have 160gb although marked on the box 120gb. Its pot luck apparently. In stock at Asda Hulme Manchester.
  • Can anyone tell me the actual model number for this aspire one please?

I have the 8GBSSD Linux version and can confirm that everything about it from internet performance to build quality is excellent. It has quite a lot of built-in apps/games so some may view the non-windows OS as an advantage. (also don't have to worry so much about viruses etc!) Don't expect it to perform as well as or have as many features as a "regular" laptop and you should not be disappointed.

Would it be possible to upgrade the memory? Surely with more memory this would be a pretty handy piece of kit.

    EDIT: found this info: http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/listparts.aspx?model=Aspire%20One £10.84 to buy 1gb DDR2 PC2-5300

This is not a notebook, it is a netbook. These are very small computers with relatively underpowered processors and smaller keyboards. They are designed for computing on the move or perhaps something to look at facebook with in front of the TV.
This should not be your main computer it would drive you crazy trying to write an essay or make a powerpoint presentation on.

Actually I work away a lot and an Acer netbook is all I ever use - I was surprised. Mine runs Office 2003 (Mine is windows not linux) quite adequately, the keyboard is good enough to touch type on. My one criticism is the mousepad, I alsways plug in an external mouse. The screen is a little small and if I'm near one, I'll plug it into a monitor, but it certainly doesn't drive me crazy.

I agree, they are not intended for "power" use, but with big hard disks they can do a lot more than just surf.

Bought this for my mum and am so pleased with it. Its brilliant. Has a built in web cam and will connect to wifi.

Also, amazon has a lovely little case for it that just opens with the netbook, means you don't have to unzip a bag - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Luxury-Leather-Premium-Aspire-version/dp/B001GRGU3M/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1232113593&sr=8-12
