HMV refuse cash refunds

Well, I for one would have been caught out too. The last time I bought something from HMV, I had to return it as it wasn't the right thing and got a refund. I wouldn't have thought to check if their policy had changed in the meantime.
I have to say the the remark by flickering ember makes me think his/her name should surely be flaming ember ! It was totally uncalled for and is one of the reasons I don't like this site so much as previously. There's just a bit too much of this intolerance creeping in. For the record, flickering ember has made over 3250 posts since joining 11 months ago - a very busy MSE'er indeed.0 -

As usual you are perfectly correct constantine.
It is not a LEGAL requirement to refund.
Although I see no reason why shops do not always refund in cases like this.
If the item is fit for resale then keep the customer happy, if its not then thats a different story.“Careful. We don't want to learn from this.”0 -

If every shoplifter knew they would get straight cash back on anything they could steal, no questions asked, there would be many more companies out of business very quickly.Who or what was I before you came in to my life
I am not sure0 -
good point.
but with a reciept?“Careful. We don't want to learn from this.”0 -
I have to say that before i joined this forum i never realised it was perfectly legal for them not to offer you a refund. I mean i never really thought about it but that is what i would have assumed. I think a lot of people would probably think the same as well, so theres no need for rude comments. At least (if nothing else) threads like these act as a reminder for people that they DO need to check before they buy.0

I agree. Some people use this site to express opinions and not necessarily to help people.

Hardly, I offered her some simple and sensible advice, and she told me that I wasn't allowed to post in her thread, show me a rule that says I can't!
She asked about the detox tablets, and I pointed out that they are a waste of money, and they are, and seeing this is a 'money saving' website I suggested that she shouldn't waste her money on tablets that are proven to be ineffective. She could have taken my advice with a simple thank you (but quietly ignored it), instead she took it upon herself to tell me what to do.
My advice was not aimed at gullible people such as the op of that post, it was aimed at other, more open minded people who may want to benefit from some hard facts rather than blow cash on snake oil and placebos.
but anyway....back on topic :rolleyes:We have removed your signature - please contact the forum team if you are not sure why - Forum Team0 -
Sorry but those of us who havw worked in retail will inform you that the law only states you are entitled to cash refund if products is faulty. It is common practise to give a refund but not a legal requirement, more a goodwill issue. What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0
