HMV refuse cash refunds
Comments

I had a similar issue in HMV before Christmas, tried to return something, was pointed to the back of the receipt. I asked to speak to the manager and simply pointed out if they wanted my business again they'd give me a refund. They did.
Although perfectly legal they'll lose business if they treat customers worse than their competitors.

Hardly, I offered her some simple and sensible advice, and she told me that I wasn't allowed to post in her thread, show me a rule that says I can't!
She asked about the detox tablets, and I pointed out that they are a waste of money, and they are, and seeing this is a 'money saving' website I suggested that she shouldn't waste her money on tablets that are proven to be ineffective. She could have taken my advice with a simple thank you (but quietly ignored it), instead she took it upon herself to tell me what to do.
My advice was not aimed at gullible people such as the op of that post, it was aimed at other, more open minded people who may want to benefit from some hard facts rather than blow cash on snake oil and placebos.
but anyway....back on topic
The OP was given a response but it clearly wasnt one they hoped for. If anything the response given TO zenseeker was against the spirit of this site and full of venom.0 -

This happens almost all the time where I work. On many occasions when we have been busy, especailly over the festive season, we've found security tags that have been ripped out of clothes left in fitting rooms and then had "customers" returning expensive dresses in what is blatantly the wrong size for them, with the price tags still on mind without a reciept within half an hour of them being seen leaving the fitting room.
Because we have to prove whether the garment has a manufacturing fault we have to honour the return. We used to have a system where if we suspected someone was dodgy we would ring up "customer services" to check if the names used have been logged before in order to refuse the refund. Now this has changed and we must offer the refund then log the customer by email when we can do nothing about it and people are taking us for a ride.
That has been completely off topic, and hopefully hasn't encouraged anyone that shoplifting is actually an easy way to make money...
Maybe this post should be in the up your income board;)0 -

I've always checked returns policy before buying things I was not sure of....if you are too lazy or stupid to do that, it is your own fault.
I think ''lazy or stupid'' is a little harsh. You don't always get to see the policy until you get a receipt and by then you have made a purchase0 -

I am neither lazy OR stupid, but if a store cannot see that this method is exactly what most reasonable minded consumers are going to resort to, then they cant complain when it happens.
The OP tried to return the item unopened and in resaleable condition, if the store HAD refunded him then everyone would be happy, and the item could be resold.
Because of HMV,s debatable no refunds policy people are forced into bending the rules.
All stores should have a cash refund policy as long as the item is unopened or tampered with.
Anything less is poor customer service in my mind.
I completely agree, if the item is in 'as sold' condition and can go straight back on the shelf for resell, I don't see why they don't allow this exception. Keeps the customer happy and their tills0 -

HMV no longer really have any competitors on the high street....:rotfl: I sort of see what you mean but then again, I never buy things without being sure I want them and/or checking the store's return policy. Goes for online stores too..0 -

Hmmm, that's interesting because if I am curious, I ask someone on the shop floor, and there are, in every shop I have been to, signs behind or sometimes ON the counter outlining the returns policy...Sorry, but there is no excuse not to read these things.
The same goes for people who go to events wihout bothering to read the rules and regulations outlined on the back of the ticket and then get argumentative when they find they cannot come in with such items or whatever breach of the rules they may be (not always inadvertently) attempting.0 -
I work at a large retailer and think it would be so much easier to do things hmv's way! As much as I respect that some people may make mistakes, some people take the mick outof the refund policies. For example, in our sale, we get people buying around £700-800 worth of goods, then returning them 2 days later, meaning we have to resort all of the goods, rehang them, and process them, and meaning that they have a got a load of bargains they didn't need that someone else could have. we also get people who buy things before the sale, return them and then try and buy them back at sale price-not happening! and the amount of times i have been shouted at because someone has no proof of purchase, and we will only honour the current selling price is unbelievable. If anything, go be mad at YOURSELF that you threw away the reciept, not at us!we are giving you a goodwill gesture in allowing you to return the item at all!after all, that item could have been stolen, or even purchased from a shoplifter themselves, there is no proof it was purchased form a shop.
Sorry about the rant but at the end of the day, I am only doing my job and i don't deserve shouting at. If you have a problem, ring head office and complain to them!0
