HMV refuse cash refunds

Thanks for whoever did resurrect this thread.
I for one was not aware of HMV lack of returns policy.
Rather annoyed, as eldest d phoned from her University city today.... in HMV.
Wanted to check what youngest sibling wanted for Christmas.
Told her, whatever she buys, make sure she keeps the receipt in case it is a duplicate .....
If I had known about this "Returns policy" I would have directed her out of the shop .
I rarely use HMV - which is why I was unaware of their policy.
It will definitely put me off buying presents in there.
Whether it is the law or not, most stores offer a 28 day full refund with receipt policy, plus some publicise that they will accept refunds on Christmas purchases until the end of January.
Thanks for the information, I will certainly bear it in mind when I go Christmas shopping myself this week0 -

to me it looks like....
wriggy had had a problem with HMV getting a refund...
and joined up to the friendly website we all know and love...
So entered HMV REFUND in the forum search and looked at the results (not wanting to upset the self appointed forum police)
The topic titled HMV refuse cash refunds caught wriggy's eye and decided to post there.
Is it really that wrong
Or would you rather have 20 threads about HMV refusing cash refunds :undecided
Agree! I wish more people would do searches like this (especially when posting fake offers about a certain footwear brand)!
Its not that we don't mind helping, its just frustrating when you see the same thing being posted over and over and even when there are clearly other threads about with the subject matter in the title. It would make such a difference if there were some way a forum search was manditory before posting if you had less then X posts or similar. There is nothing wrong with pulling an old thread up as long as its relevent.0 -
I think the big issue for HMV is that most of their products can be copied and sold illegally on the street. Which is why they have such a harsh returns policy. It's not the same as a clothes shop.0

I think the issue is that normally the procedures for returns are printed on the back of the receipts i.e. after the sale of the item. So the customer only becomes aware of the fact that they cannot be offered a refund for a non-faulty item after they have bought it. I understand it is not a legal requirement to offer refunds, but I still think it is bad customer service. Even when I asked if I could return an item just before I bought it, there was no mention of not getting a full refund. I think HMV should make this policy a lot clearer to customers before they buy!
well its been like this for many many years and ive not got a problem with it, why not think if you need something before buying it and if you still want it then buy it,I think the big issue for HMV is that most of their products can be copied and sold illegally on the street. Which is why they have such a harsh returns policy. It's not the same as a clothes shop.
its not a harsh policy at all, in fact its the same as other retailers,0 -
i had a similar shock around christmas time. i bought my sis downton abbey boxset in HMV then re ordered on play.com as it was £7 cheaper. thinking i could just reund HMV, what a nasty surprise when i left with a bloody gift card. and i have literally no use for £25 hmv voucher as everything is cheaper elsewhere. i managed to flog it to my mum who still buys physical music.
from a business view its a good way of keeping money in the company and as we all know HMV is going down the pan fast. however as a consumer i find it horrible and it puts me off shopping there, same as sports direct.0
