  • How-do-u-do?

May I join your forum please? I have been with OH a long time (10 years in June) and have been engaged for about 18 months. My wedding date is (shock horror) Saturday 15th August.

Thought that I had earnt my stripes for this forum, as bought my dress (designer & silk) for £300 and shoes (that I'd searched for everywhere) for £5 new on Ebay. Ended up blowing the budget on entertainment, though. We've got a bit of a Medieval theme happening so we've got minstrels and all sorts.

Any advice re. an egg-free wedding cake. DD (just turned 3) is allergic, and we had a nightmare trying to find one for a her birthday party last week. Ended up cooking it in the early hours the night B4! :rotfl:
  • Hello ladies. Can I join this thread please? I am getting married on 15th August and am starting to panic a bit. The church and venue is booked and I met with the caterer today, so am just waiting for a price. I can't make my mind up about my dress though and I know I need to decide pretty sharpish. My MIL2B thinks I'm mad. She can't believe I've not sent my invitations out yet. Has anyone else done the invites already? Oh the joy of wedding stress...
  • thanks. I got engaged a exactly a month ago, and am now frantically trying to sort everything out so that we can get married in Aug.

both our families live outside of the UK, so it means that I have to deal with planning, etc, in addition to logistics between church , reception and hotel..
  • cheers for that Sammy-girl, we are getting married in our local town hall so they should have something like that - i just want my friends who cannot make it from abroad to sortof join in on our day too - even if it is via a computer
Got married on 1st August

thank you to everyone on the weddings and anniversary forum xxx

    Hi Vonster-monster and miamia :)

I have added you both to the list. Gosh - our day is quite a popular one lol

Nic - sorry to hear that you didn't find "the dress" - don't be disheartened. You'll know when you've found it!! Let us know how you get on tomorrow :)

Vonster - well done on the bargain dress and shoes :j I got my pure silk dress for £500 and my Rainbow Club shoes for £10 :j Not sure about the cake. But I would suggest going to the Old Style Moneysaving board on here, and I'm sure one of those lovely ladies would have a good idea.

Mia - don't panic about the invites. A lot of us sent out save the date cards so that people are aware of the date. Invites are usually sent out about 3 months before. I think ours are going out in May, when we have the gift list confirmed :T

I had to get OH to do some organising today :rotfl: I want to get the groomsmen measured up next Saturday, so he did the phoning round to make sure that they are available. I also told him to tell them that we would like them to wear nice shiny (ie patent!) black shoes, and they all seem a little too ken on that idea - no problems there lol

I'm a bit down that the honeymoon suite isn't available at our first night hotel. But then we're going on our amazing honeymoon the next day so that will compensate :)

What is everyone doing for their honeymoon?

    Hi Guys,

I had my meeting with the caterer yesterday and feel like a weight has been lifted. He has been great. We now have our menu sorted out, He is going to get napkins to match our colour scheme, He has also told me he has a stand for my table plan, holders for the table numbers. If we give him written instructions how we want the tables decorated he will do that for us (Day and Night) He is arranging the drinks for us and has said any wine that isnt opened he will not charge us for, He is going to sort the cake for me and let us use his cake stand.
Also said as a way to save money he will leave desserts off the buffet menu as it will save us money to just serve the wedding cake (His suggestion) All in all he has been fantastic!

Well I did not find my dress today  I tried some lovely ones on and felt so pretty when I had them on, but I have another appointment tomorrow :j its a bigger shop and has more in stock and I know I will find "The Dress" tomorrow I have a list of ones I like but I really need to find it tomorrow I have left it late I have been told!!

Never mind I am sure you will find one today *fingers crossed* I wouldnt worry too much about people saying you have left it late, I went to a wedding fair and only one out of 12dress stalls said I had left it too late.

    Hi Sammy,

We have had the same problem. Were getting married in a stately home that doesnt have any rooms so we were going to stay in a hotel down the road but the suite is booked for our night. Only other hotels close by are Holiday Inn and Travel Lodge and I have nothing against them but was hoping for something a bit swankier (if thats a real word?)
We arent having a honeymoon as we have a holiday booked 5 weeks before the wedding for a big bunch of us which we booked before we got enagaged. So will prob have the honeymoon later on. I want to go to the Maldives
With regards to your flowers aswell Im getting silk ones as I want to be able to keep them:-
    1 shower bouquet for me
    3 BMs poseys
    1 flower girl posey
    1 top table decoration
    4 round table decorations
8 buttonholes all for under £180 waiting to hear back about whether she can do a cake topper for me.

Well don on the caterer Val, that sounds very good :j

So your last post made me laugh. Our reception is at a Golf Club and no hotel on site. The 2 hotels that we have decided to recommend and which I've reserved about 20 rooms are the Premier Travel Inn and the Holiday Inn. And unfortunately, someone else has already booked the honeymoon suite, so I've booked a deluxe room.....at the Holiday Inn :rotfl: Actually, I don't mind the holiday inn, there can be some quite ropey ones but equally there are some lovely ones. And it would be nice to stay in the same place as my guests as I'm sure we'll end up in the hotel bar afterwards :D These 2 hotels are literally opposite each other, so we're going to ask guests if they want transport booked so that they don't have to worry about driving back from the Golf Club.

I did a little bit more today - booked my pooch in kennels for our honeymoon. They get so chock-a-block in August, so I'm pleased I remembered this early lol. I also booked a consultation in for next week for hair extensions. I had these 3 years ago, and they are a complete nightmare to maintain, but my hair is so fine and the length is too short to have the style that I want on the day. So I think that I will get some done soon, then get my hair trials sorted and decide on a style, and then I can get them redone again just before the wedding. The things we brides do lol
