RichyRich wrote:(I believe) they only give ATM Cards for Basic accounts, but saw a poster in the window of the Cambridge branch yesterday saying if you've had your basic account for 6 months or more and have money paid in and haven't been overdrawn you may be eligible to be upgraded to the full bank account. I think you had to ask in-branch, but might be worth giving them a ring?

1 of my accounts is HSBC. They issued me with a Solo card awhile back (never understood why it was not a switch) phoned them a minute ago and they said they would upgrade me to a switch

have just rang HSBC and opened a basic bank account
the lady said that it would be looked at in 3-6 months time and upgraded if all ok

Good luck! Sorry, I was under the impression you already had a BBA. You'll probably be upgraded to solo first, then other facilities added over time. It might take well over a year to get "Full" account facilities such as chequebook, CGC, switch etc.#145 Save £12k in 2016 Challenge: £12,062.62/£12,000.00 Beginning Balance: £5,027.78 CHALLENGE MET

thats ok - i dont mind it taking a while, as long as i get there in the end
thanks again
well anyway.... i went down to HSBC with my ID and was there over an hour as they insisted on going through the whole application process again as they couldnt see why i couldnt have a full current account due to income etc...
i did explain it was because of CCJ which was now settled etc but he still insisted.
i got my basic account opened in the end, but they did state i would have to close my halifax account and have therefore fewer account facilities than i had
but am willing to take the chance as was getting nowhere with halifax and their customer service is truly awful
they have even now opened a special counter for cardcash and basic accounts, you arent even allowed to join a normal queue. total discrimination!0 -
I fell out with HSBC a long time ago and wouldn't touch them again unless I really had to. But they do seem the most willing to help with upgrading accounts etc and I have mainly heard good things about their customer services (although personally I'm not convinced).

I have been Banking with HSBC for just under a year. When the account was opend I was given a "Rubish" SOLO debit card.
I was told this can not be upgraded into a MASTERO debit card untill I have been banking with them for at least 1 year,
but does it depend on my credit rating ? , I have a good credit rating but my account has recently been in minus (over my overdraft limit)
Do you think I will be likely to be able to upgrade my card ??0 -
I have just spoken with my bank at HSBC and for some reason the overdraft request system has changed.
How do I get an overdraft facilty , so I don't keep getting charged £25.00 each time I go overdrawn ??
I think HSBC is one of the best banks, from my personal expirence with them, They have been paitent and co oprotive and are willing to help my finacual needs.
......BUT I don't understand why they can't give people with a good credit ratting a MASTERO debit card, aldough I have not yet appliyed for one.0
