thanks verbatim,
i guess that im just not really materialistic thats all and i have bought up my kids to be the same.....my son got £25 cheque and £5 cash today for his birthday and the £25 is going in the bank.....i asked him what he was saving for and he said...the interest lol
we as a family spend very little, my kids dont get stuff throughout the year, just bdays and xmas...they save up for anything else themselves..i dont give extortionate pocket money...0-4's get nowt, 5-9's get £1 and 10-15 £2. they dont spend their money on rubbish.
we dont really eat out (only for birthdays), or takeaways...probably one in the last 3 months!!!
the kids look after their stuff and their clothes and i do hand clothes down (although impossible for DD with 3 brothers lol!!
lots of my friends think i am mad...saving money like a madwoman and making everything from scratch....but i want to be debt free and i hope that the lessons i am teaching my kids will last a lifetime!!!November NSD's - 70 -

Your attitude is fantastic Jamie, no doubt it is teaching your kids very valuable lessons as well as inspiring us!
"I'm saving for the interest", I like that! Just saving for the sake of it, not for something big, flashy and expensive, that's fab!Don't stress, relax, let life roll off your backs. Except for death and paying taxes, everything in life is only for now... Avenue QOfficial DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 003Proud to have become debt free... and striving to keep it that way

morning guys!
i emptied my savings piggy this morning and i had:
£20 x £5 notes
£36 x £2 coins
£21 x £1 coins
£6 x 50p
£4 x 20p
grand total = £87 which is going to be duly deposited in my abbey account this morning off my overdraft. i have updated my signature and am well happy!!!!
i will be paying another £340 off my overdraft at the end of the month too. which will bring my debt down below the £7k marker!!!!
i am saving money in a a&l 10% account at £50 per month and £50 per month into halifax at 7%. this is the start of my saving towards paying off my car loan. as i cannot make overpayments towards it, i need to settle in full. my target DFD is april 2007.... (i hope to beat that tho!)
i am going to do the grocery and store cupboard challenges again this month to see if i can shave a little more off the budget and use that PIN money towards the overdraft too.....fingers crossed this all pans out how i hope!!!November NSD's - 70
