Yes I see your point about being kept on because of a technicality. Part of my problem with my job is knowing that actually, they were lumbered with me. My boss tries to put a positive spin on it but the fact remains that I did not compete for this job, excel in an interview, or win over a panel. I did all of that for my old job and felt good about it. Now I am just a reject!

It's why I changed job 2 years ago. The Glasgow office were basically told they had to take me on but they never really created a proper job for me and I ended up twiddling my thumbs while others were working untili 9/10 at night on clients I could have taken on. Its not nice to feel like you're not really wanted... I need to stop taking it so personally. As Gemmzie so wisely said - its not 'me' they're getting rid of so much as the position and it might still be the other girl that gies...(unlikely tho...)

Is there room for another one in the fed up club :D

I too have work problems, but in my case I'm the boss and I'm not sure how much I can trust one of my staff

Oh that must be horrible! I sincerely felt sorry for our partner this afternoon. Poor bloke looked like he was going to cry or pass out or both...

What makes you think they might not be trustworthy?

• Client made redundant when off sick, on holiday or when pregnant or on maternity leave
87
An employee who is off sick, or has been off sick, and who is chosen for redundancy because of her/his sickness record, may be able to claim that this was an unfair selection process and so claim unfair dismissal. S/he may also be able to claim that it was unlawful disability discrimination.
88
If an employee is chosen for redundancy while s/he is on holiday, s/he may have been unfairly dismissed. The adviser will need to check through with the client whether this is a true redundancy, what the redundancy selection criteria are, whether they were applied objectively and whether proper consultation took place.
89
It has been established by the House of Lords that selecting a woman for redundancy because s/he is pregnant will mean she is automatically unfairly dismissed (endnote 12). She will probably also be able to claim unlawful sex discrimination.

Long and short.. you need to make sure that the selection process for redundancy is fair and that you are being treated equally to all other employees and not discriminated against or given less points etc because of your pregnancy.

Luc, I was made 'redundant' while i was on maternity leave, although in reality he had just run out of money and as I was not in the office he thought it would be okay not to pay me. I won my case for unfair dismissal and sex discrimination. I know its different in your case but it is hard not to feel rejected.

What I will say is that everything does happen for a reason.

Chin up girl - although I would fight for the bonus for going back to work on top of the redundancy....seriously - what have you got to lose - and don't forget holiday pay accrues while you are on maternity leave...in fact the more I think about it the more I think you should seek legal advice.....even though the criteria may fit your profile it could be said that they are just trying to get out of paying their dues....
