I agree - I really hope Boots doesn't give up on its online Sale - both this year & in future years. However, this year's fiasco must have caused them so much angst (can you imagine being a CS Advisor there ) - I don't think they will be able to proceed without some significant changes.
I think the major problem is that is probably being treated by some individuals as a Wholesale facility, but it is not geared up for that.
My friend witnessed, instore, a group of 4 women who had 6 of those humungous bags (like you get sand or cement delivered in) sweeping entire shelves of the same Sale product into them. It nearly caused a riot as no-one else could get round them & their monster-sized bags so they single-handedly cleared the shelves, plus it subsequently monopolised Checkout for hours!!!
I remember witnessing a similar incident last year & from what I have read here, a few other peeps have seen this happening in their local stores also.
Obviously, these people are buying huge quantities (Wholesale) to re-sell & if they are doing it in-store, they are probably doing it online also. However, the website is designed as a Consumer site, not a Wholesale one & it isn't difficult to imagine how a good few people putting 100 products of each sale line in their baskets & hitting the button at the same time is going to completely freak the system out.
Likewise instore, they are so not geared for Wholesale activity either.
I don't intend to debate the morals of this, but I think quite simply, for purely operational reasons, Boots will have to decide if their Sales are going to be Consumer/Retail or Wholesale. If it is Consumer then they will have to put a limit (say 3 or 5) on the sale of each item. As we all know Supermarkets already do this on their Loss Leader Offers (usually a limit of 3), otherwise the stores would be full of Independent Retailers, Stall Holders etc. buying there instead of the Cash & Carry.
    What do you guys think?
The thing is, Boots is a business and only exists to make money. They need to clear stock and the best way to do it is to sell it as soon as possible in as larger quantities as possible. Don't get me wrong, I hate it as much as you when you see people swiping large amounts of the items you wanted, but don't expect Boots to be bothered. The loss leaders in supermarkets are limited to draw customers into the shop to do their whole shop in there. The sale items are reduced to get rid of them as quick as possible. I agree with a limit but I don't expect Boots will do it as it benefits them to get rid of as much stuff as possible.

i ordered at 5.04am and its still showing as being processed. i'll be really annoyed if they cancel it, as i'd only ordered 4 things for the kids birthdays/xmas. we went to bolton reebok on wednesday am, and it was a battle ground. people actually had 2 or 3 trolleys full of items - i'm talking 10+ of the same item. As others have suggested, boots should put a limit of say 2 or 3 of the same item so that there is more to go round. rant over now!

had a similar thing at Grays- it is only a small store but 2 young women there had at least 10 bags & were blocking the sale aisles with at least 6 more baskets to stop others getting up there, whilst on the phone and 10 mins later 2 more of their friends appeared with buggies to block the other end! I asked to go past and one of the girls with the buggy stood there looking puzzled and gesturing that she did not understand me- to this I stepped over their numerous bags with the utmost difficulty and she rammed me with her buggy:eek: luckily at this point 1 police, 1 community officers arrived & they wanted to have a look (i will ignore the fact they were in full uniform & obviously on duty) well on seeing the woman ram me with her buggy they asked her & friends to move on- they said jokily " have you left anything for anyone else" on this note they got the message & moved out of the way & paid for the rest of their items- it was very off putting and to be honest selfish to try & prevent others getting items.

    recieved my order
  • I'm always up for a bargain as i'm sure most people out there are, but reading through some of the above posts it seems there people out there who just abuse the situation. I did spend just over £100 online, saving £330. But i was ordering presents for throughout the year and next Xmas, and not just myself but for my Mum who does not have internet access or able to drive. It is obvious these people are only buying to resell, ie: carboots and ebay. As mentioned by a member in an earlier post, Boots won't be bothered how much certain people are buying as long as the stock is going down. If the sale reappears this year online or next......please limit the amount per item Boots!

I agree. From reading some of the posts on the boots threads a lot of the ladies said the worse was in the shops and people were just buying numerous identical items and filling trolleys with it obviously for re-sale whilst other ladies didnt get a chance.

Maybe i am niave but i just want bits for my children and family as presents for Birthday and Christmas to try save some money.

I have seen similar couple years ago a few days before Xmas in the Next clearance stores when they had reduced their items down to stupid prices (most kids bits inc coats, jeans, shoes were £1-£3) . Again i was buying for my children but about 5 ladies came in and in big armfuls just took everything off the racks. Did not even look at what it was, sizes nothing. They then stacked it up in several massive 3ft piles on the floor and stood gaurding it. People were really complaining. The mangeress came out obviously angry and asked them if they had funds to pay for it all which they said they had so the mangeress walked off.

They must have a shop, stall or ebay or something. They also had 2 vans outside with men sitting in so were obviously some sort of traders!

Hi, I made two orders at boots online, one was for 7 items at 3:08am and the second order was for 6 items at 3:19am. I choose standard delivery and I have just had my second order delivered, I have also been sent an email to say my first order will be "partially" sent out, this is because 1 of the items I wanted was out of stock. So overall I'm going to get everything I wanted except for the 1 item. Im just writing this to those people who are worried about their orders, both of mine are being sent, and others have also been sent already so yours maybe ok too! for those who had orders cancelled I really sympathise and strongly agree with the comments above that a limit should be placed on order alot of the same item, I just bought things for myself and family, but I know others are buying to sell on, no doubt we will soon be seeing the No7 P&P sets for sale on ebay at expensive prices.

My order has just been delivered. Three large boxes and it's all present and correct. I am delighted. I hope everyone else gets what they ordered.

I gave up with the online sale just before the school run on Wednesday and went to Birmingham Fort. The shop was empty apart from about 20 people in the 75% off section. I got the two items I intended to buy and then wandered around looking for a few toys for my 10 week old little boy.

There was one lady in there who had a trolley full of two or three of the same items who was buying them for a nursery which I didnt have a problem with. There was also one lady who had a basket full of Disney Princess Aquadraws (about 10) - either her kids take one of these to every party they attend/she has lots of nieces or they will be on ebay!

I felt sorry for one lady who desperately wanted a Blossom Farm sit me up thing which I was buying for my son. When I picked mine up there were about 10 but she missed them. I would have given her mine if it hadnt been for my own son - did feel a bit mean though.

It seems we have been lucky, I feel bad for all those people who have had problems, no doubt they wont have any good stock left in stores now for them to buy
