  • Hi

Been reading this with interest. I had to ask some questions:

I ordered a while back, got an email confirmation (At the full price) though I used the 20% new customer code - this was automatically entered for me (was there when I went into the checkout).

I went for the credit account, rather than pay straightaway.

Do you think I should call them up and check where it is?

The best thing: I already got £30 in my quidco account - so even if I don't get the TV, I get £30 - is this right?

Have spoken to Freemans (cash sales) and inforned that there are currently NO discount codes available not even 20% for first time purchases.

I am now awaiting a call from a customer services manager so i can explain my situation. The ironic thing is that I received a letter today from freemans thanking me for my order (at the discounted price) and there would be a delay in delivery due to stock shortages.

I am seriously considering taking the matter further and possibly to the small claims court because they want me to pay the full price for the TV now. a differnce of nearly £400 which I cannot afford to pay.

The 25% code was an offer in the Autum/winter cataloige and I fully understand that a code/order can be cancelled if it is invalid. What I am contesting with Freemans is that they accepted my order with the discount code and even confirmed it a week later, they had already cancelled the code so it could not be used well before this confirmation and it would have been easy to inform me then that the order was invalid. On this confirmation it can be reasonably presumed the order is OK and act upon it. This i did by selling my old TV to make way for the new one. Freemans then arbitarily canceled my order without informing me even though I have written confirmation that it was accepted.

I know may people are saying why didn't i just use the 20% code at the time of ordering. Well you can only use 1 code and normally if a code is invalid it is rejected immediatley by the website.

I suggest you get hold of a catalogue then so that you can prove you had a right to use it. Also check the terms in said catalogue - it may say only applicable to existing customers etc...

Good luck, if you decide to take this further you'll need it.

Yes, i rang them about mine and they said it had been cancelled because i didn't get enough credit (i got 700, needed 720 grrrr). So i then rang and paid by card. They have been delayed to the 13th now. Will shout if i hear anything else.

Just spoken to customer services manager and he says they will not honour any 25% discount code. The code expired on the 5th jan but there system was at fault and still accepted it. I informed him that the customer services staff informed me my order was still valid nearly 1 week after ordering. He basically said that due to the system accepting my order customer services would not know any better.

I told him I had written confirmation received by post that my order had been acceted and he said he knew but they would still not honour it. I asked him about the 20% code and he said this was also an erroe on their system. 20% codes are only valid for account holders and the maximum credit was £700. I informed himthat the terms and conditions do not state that on the website and poeple had orderd and paid in full and received the 20% discount. he said this was an error to and they were working on rectifying it.

I asked why they had cancelled my order without informing me and he said i should have been informed (another error very sorry).

I obtained the address of head office and will fire a letter of to them and have also contacted Trading standards on how we stand when there are no terms and conditions on thier website and how an order accepted and confirmed in writing is then cancelled arbitarily just because their systems were at fault.

Ring up on the 0870 number and open an account. The problem is you are not going to know what credit limit they give you until they have done their credit checks. if you get £500 then you will be fine. I have heard that some people have paid the remaining balance on credit card and got 20% off that part of the order too. its worth a try and but wouldn't rely on anything their sales staff tell you.

I would prefer to pay them instantly by card but perhaps they want an account with you first, what you think?

Give up.... You tried to trick their system, that bit worked but they caught it in the end. You have no order unless they have charged you for it. And by charged I mean either a) Debited your card or b) posted you a full written invoice

Technically mine and all the others can also get cancelled because our cards haven't been debited yet.

I appreciate that you're upset by the way you've been treated - I think I would be too. But, has any money actually changed hands. ie. has a contract actually been made? by all means complain, but if you haven't paid for the item, then don't waste money going to court.

I've elected to pay in full and with the 20% off, I'll believe it when I see the TV as it's massively cheaper than everywhere else....

As I stated the other day, they do still offer, in their words 'a massive 20% off' people's first order if you are recommended by an account holder. To quote the whole line from there website (and yes, it's still their, cookies or not):

'Simply fill in the form below and select your chosen gift. We will then send your friend a catalogue and they will receive a massive 20% off their first order. Remember you can recommend as many friends as you like!'

    It's here:

    https://www.freemans.com/web/main/rec_friend.asp

Therefore, there is still a genuine, valid 20% off discount available. I ordered from them yesterday and the 20% discount link was on their homepage (now removed AGAIN). They've already cancelled my previous order as the 25% code was invalid. Well the 20% code was off their site, legit and acknowledged both on my onscreen order confirmation and the confirmation email. If they don't put it through this time I will be slightly annoyed.

Edit note. I have just noticed that the 5% has appeared in my Quidco account which did not happen the first time I ordered using the 25%.

Ye Gods, by the time I get this sodding TV, HD will be obsolete and we'll all be trying to get bargain 3D SuperHD TVs!!!
