one last question on this - hopefully will be fixed soon
I am off on holiday on Monday - to stop the overflowing I guess I can either isolate the valve on the left hand side of toilet or stop the water coming into my property....or should I do both (any danger in doing both)?

turn off both valves.
and switch off the boiler. just remember to turn em all on again when u return!
re the OP and the shelf.
it will either be stuck down or tiled on top of some nails/screws. prising it up should reveal all.Get some gorm.0 -
thanks pal - dont have boiler - just an immersion heater as I live in an apartment, but will turn off as well0
