Debate House Prices

In order to help keep the Forum a useful, safe and friendly place for our users, discussions around non MoneySaving matters are no longer permitted. A new Redundancy board on MSE?

I've just noticed that a brand new redundancy board has been created. That anyone would even have thought of it has to be a huge sign of the times.

Perhaps we'll get a board recommending the best soup kitchens next week.

I think that was a bad move myself. I mean, what exactly is there to discuss? Someone posts that they've just been made redundant, what do you reply? "Umm sorry to hear that luv/matey, here's the link to the jobcentre, good luck?"

I think creating a redundancy thread in one of the forums would have been more appropriate myself.

Presumably legal amounts of redundancy pay, how to claim, how to object on equality grounds? maybe.

There are financial aspects to it that can usefully be discussed, surely.

Companies recruting in areas, and general job opps possibly.
  • The schadenfreunde community from here could post remarks about how the redundantee's should have put money away from cover themselves or should have stayed in rented accomodation or any other such poorly disguised, gleeful remarks.

    So true.

Be on the look out for spam from the "we'll buy your house in 24 hours" pirates.

I suppose it is to get away from unsympathetic remarks that helps justify a new board. It doesn't help when one is in trouble to have people gloating about their own comfortable position or telling you that you are a fool not to have done something or other. Actually a 'community' of people with similar problems can help no end to lift moral when one gets support and understanding. The few malign posters not actually in that position who venture there will no doubt be rounded upon as being unhelpful.

And the reporter from the Daily Scumbag with their first post stating "I'm a reporter from the Daily Scumbag. Have you been made redundant? Would you be willing to have your picture taken? We will report your story sympathetically. E-mail me at..."

I've been made redundant twice - once compulsory, once voluntary and think the board is a great idea.
