This is on their website for the item:

    Warnings

Warning: Although every care has been taken to remove bones, some may remain

The website lists what is on the packaging usually so I guess it must be on the packaging that came with it.

for goodness sake dont people want to take any responsiblity any more.
YOU gave the chicken sandwhich to your 3(!) year old child, and its tescos fault theres was a bone in it? if it was cheese sandwhich with a chicken bone in it id be annoyed but its a chicken sandwhich!
just where is this country going? no wonder we are in such a nanny state when people cant look after and be responsble for them selves.
its just £££££££ signs to people

    I'm with Kurjam,
Tesco should be more apologetic, the fact is her son could have choked.
If there is no warning on the packet then tesco are in the wrong.

I'm sure if it was you who had almost choked on a chicken bone you would be upset too! A 1 and a half inch bone should not be in a sandwhich

Might be worth writing a letter saying how disappointed you are with the poor quality of their product, etc. Send it to the relevant branch manager and also to the customer services address.

Lots of the time this works - I had £25 vouchers from M&S after complaining about a hideous chicken pie with no chicken in it, and a cheque for £12 off Bernard Matthews cos I told them their roast turkey travesty was mostly fat and gristle. If you're not satisfied with a product's quality, write an arsey letter!

I'm a manager of a supermarket and after another day of explaining to customers that yes you do need some form of proof of purchase to get a refund i opened this thread with weariness and a degree of masochism.
I read the opening thread and immediately thought "what do you expect them to do?"
I scrolled down expecting all sorts of supportive messages saying how disgraceful tesco's reaction was and that some form of hefty compensation was in order.
I then read message after wonderful message expressing common sense and preaching self respnsibility.

Cheers all you've restored my faith.
  • Sorry, but I personally never chose to give my kids sandwiches made outside the house till they were of school age. At the age of three they do not know self control, will gulp down food if they are hungry without consideration for what might happen. This is why specific childrens food is made with extra care. OK, maybe the sandwich should not have had a bone in it, but maybe a cheese one in future would be more sensible. However, the only way to guarantee things will be up to your standard is to make them yourself. I did this for a long time, partly because we were broke, and partly because I slowly realised that I KNEW what went into what I made rather than guessing what other people put into it.
What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare
