Aren't all sandwiches hand made? Surely a machine was used to strip the meat from the carcass?

That's what usually happens, then the sandwiches are constructed by hand, this of course opens it up to human error, they may simply have not seen the stray bone.

Sometimes the meat is stripped by hand, but that just another human in the line who can err, especially when these under-paid people are under great pressure to work as fast an efficiently as possible.

I’m very fussy about meat based food. Just the thought of biting into bone, gristle or worse and I feel quite ill.
Whenever I buy quality sausages, pies or ready meals etc. I tend to imagine that these products are prepared by some friendly looking family butcher - with the cutting skills of a surgeon – painstakingly taking time to select only the very best cuts of meat and liberally discarding the rest for the bin.
I need to think this way as I don’t wish to become a veggie, just yet.

thanks all for your comments, my son had the finest chicken sandwich (was on special offer otherwise i would not have brought it for him), as for comments on buying a cheese one next time, i cant do that he can not eat cheese due to deitry problems.
And tesco have given me £15 to spend on my next shopping trip to them, as they agreed that as its hand made and the size of the bone it should have been picked up while the item was being made...

The £15 was to keep you sweet, and shopping with Tesco not an admission of wrong doing in any way. No the bone should not have been there but errors occur.
You gave the impression in the OP that you felt you should be entitled to a lot more from Tesco as a matter of right.
The majority of posters are correct, just what did you really expect?

When preparing quality meat products that is exactly what they do, they also only ever use animals that have died of natural causes in their sleep.

I can't bear think about where it has come from, the only thing that is stopping me becoming a veggie is smoked bacon butties, a very rare treat but not one I'm willing to give up, if it wasn't for them I wouldn't eat any kind of meat but seeing as I do I may as well go the whole hog (no pun intended!) :rotfl:
