Sorry, but I personally never chose to give my kids sandwiches made outside the house till they were of school age. At the age of three they do not know self control, will gulp down food if they are hungry without consideration for what might happen. This is why specific childrens food is made with extra care. OK, maybe the sandwich should not have had a bone in it, but maybe a cheese one in future would be more sensible. However, the only way to guarantee things will be up to your standard is to make them yourself. I did this for a long time, partly because we were broke, and partly because I slowly realised that I KNEW what went into what I made rather than guessing what other people put into it.

So if your out for the day unexpectedly and your child is hungry, assuming youve not taken sandwiches as you werent expecting to be out all day rather than by a sandwich you ply them with crisps, sausage rolls . . ?

I dont know what sort of 3 year olds youve had but neither have mine have gulped food down without a care!

I would sellotape the bone fragment to a letter, explaining the situation, and send it to Tesco's.
For me it's not a compensation matter. Most people do not complain enough and put up with sub-standard purchases. I hate getting bones, gristle and other nasties in meat based food so I tend to buy from supermarket's "best" range in the hope that only quality cuts of meat are used.
If everyone adopted a 'just put up with it' attitude and companies were not informed about such matters, then food quality will suffer greatly for all.
In such circumstances, I think people should be compensated. I'd be quite happy for my compensation to be given to a charity; they just need to be hit where it hurts or greed will always take over quality.
I had a Ginster's Cornish pasty about a month ago and I can only imagine that a chainsaw had been used in selecting the cuts of meat - either that of their secret recipe includes bone & gristle!

I couldnt of put it better myself :T

for goodness sake dont people want to take any responsiblity any more.
YOU gave the chicken sandwhich to your 3(!) year old child, and its tescos fault theres was a bone in it? if it was cheese sandwhich with a chicken bone in it id be annoyed but its a chicken sandwhich!
just where is this country going? no wonder we are in such a nanny state when people cant look after and be responsble for them selves.
its just £££££££ signs to people

I once found some cheese in a chicken bone sandwich. I was pleased.

Well maybe it's just me, but I can totally agree with the OP's outrage here.

Chicken sandwiches are NOT supposed to contain bone. If you got a Happy Meal at McDonald's for your 3 year old, you would not expect a one and a half inch bone in the burger and wouldn't be too amused at all those who informed you that cows DO contain bone, you know....!

Where do you draw the line? Can you shrug it off when a baby chokes on pureed chicken and whatever from a jar, just because chickens DO contain bone, and there's a bone in the jar? Or your toothless old granny chokes on her chicken soup because there's a bone in it?

Rest assured, Tesco wouldn't have given £15 if they'd been in the clear in this case.

Ill just point out where your rant loses any credibility.

A PUREE is a thick liquid form and to produce this the liquid goes through a sieve like piece of machinery so would never have a bone in it.

And if the chicken soup is not a smooth soup but one with chunks of real chicken in it then it may just contain a bone.

And macdonalds chicken products are reformed chicken which has been through lots of processes before its been reformed into what resembles a chicken buger/mcnugget.

Do you read the daily mail by chance? Your apparent hysteria is whats wrong with this country. You ahve not even thought out your arguement before posting and thus making yourself look irrational.

I can understand the OPs frustration at the bone being in there but thats life, its a chicken sandwich made from chicken cut off the whole bird and Tesco acknowledged thier mistake and £15 is quite a nice gesture.

I really do despise people liek you who are slwoly bringing this country to its knees. I bet you complained about the sachsgate affair without even hearing it too.

i would have been annoyed too if i had found this in my sandwich but as long as it wasnt a green or dirty bone.....you do need to be carefull with kids. am curious about the size of the bone, an inch and a half is quite a big bone to fit in a three year olds mouth! i think you probably got a fright and wouldnt be so angry if they had shown more concern for your sons wellfare.
