Aftermath chez Wol2 –moving forwards after the flood

Well I've had to rejig my thinking on building works priorities this week.
Now the trees have been done, and the fencing is about to be done, I've decided that the next most important work is the garage/outside area and also ensuring the house is waterproof (guttering/roof tiles and also the leaking new render courtesy of Dodgit and Bodgit last year that allows rainwater to pour in around the lounge window).
Planning said i will need full Planning Permission and Buildings Regulatory approval to re-do the foundations of the bridge (in addition to Environment Agency consent) so have decided, in view of the chocolate teapots that call themselves the Environment Agency and the less than helpful Structural Engineers, that I will just replace the existing timbers for now (Permitted Development no permission needed and should sail through EA consent and should last 5 years) and save for the full monty restoring the erosion around the bridge and banks.
The complaint form for the Ombudsman has now become a priority and, if I get any reimbursement, then that can go towards putting right the interior......mainly the strip out of the kitchen....I now have 5 broken floor tiles because they have not been cemented in properly and rock......... and the work surface housing the cooker has suddenly dropped an alarming 1cm from the edge of the wall tiles ....apparently because it has not been supported properly :eek:)
Income wise it's been a very poor three months, although i have 5 new businesses for July/August so things should start to pick up. :T
I have been finding it difficult to focus on work or indeed anything (including this thread) over this last week however because of the impending birthday party last sunday.....won;t go into details but some of you will know it was a massive step/risk for me to take to face my whole family in a group since the flood happened (hence why Smashed came with me bless her :A....thanks Smashed :kisses3:). In the aftermath, I am left feeling even more convinced that any closer contact than currently exists with certain family members would not be a good idea until I feel more confident and secure about being able to deal emotionally with (and thus keep myself protected from) some of the more dysfunctional aspects of their behaviour and the games they play. But at least I did my duty...... even if the emotional poking and prodding I have been receiving since last wednesday from said family members (not unexpected but hoped it wouldn;t happen) has resulted in one meltdown (thanks for the chat that night Z :kisses3:) and a couple of duvet days either side of the weekend for me
. (Hmm might delete this bit later..feel better for writing it down......but see how we go)
So for the rest of today, I MUST work to finish a write up (and therefore invoice)....plus do another assessment ready for monday meeting.
Oh.......and I promise you all not to watch Andy Murray play live today (whenever I have done, he's always had a carp match....and lost... :rotfl:)
Hugs to those that need them.....KC you OK Hun?

Hiya! Right here .... I'm not too bad. Sorry to hear of the family members kicking up, I'm glad you had Smashed with you. I've been having quiet little freakouts myself - went up to London on Saturday with my oldest friend - I *should* have been staying with her, she offered, but I couldn't hack it, had to come back to my own bed. Keeps on happening - my back went bad yesterday morning, tho its now okay after I took some painkillers and convinced myself it wasn't a slipped disc! I'm a wreck! I really admire your risktaking, Wol, it was a big thing for you, I know.
Gotta go .... will pm later, hopefully

Glad you;re OK KC.
Know what you mean about staying away....I used to be out in hotels three or four nights a week on business for years. Now I do everything I can to avoid staying away (unless of course it's oop narf with Smashed et al) and even then will only ever do two nights on the trot....after I've checked the weather forecast to ensure it's not going to flood in my absence IYKWIM......;):rotfl:
Hope the back is feeling better and that you rested it today while watching the tennis (lucky its the Beeb and not the Barstewards!)
........and thank you everyone.I didn;t watch the match.....I only tuned in to Murray's last game.......and surprise surprise.......he suddenly did a Henman :eek:....QED!!...I'm a jinx I'm sure :rotfl::rotfl:

LOL at your letter writing Wol - I'm usually good at that myself, maybe the reason Sky threw me for a loop this week is that it was verbal - I have a letter writing mode I call "middle class snotty" - and it works a treat - I complained one time about being told off for how I crossed the road by a young policeman ( seriously! I'm not making that up!) and I got a police inspector ringing up to come round and apologise, I was astonished!
Way to go KC :T:T:T:T:T:T...methinks we need to form a "Ladies of (snotty) Letters" Club :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

thanks for the piccies Wol it looks much better now. and well done with getting on with the planning stuff too
chev
Hi Chev
How's things down in the frosty southern hemisphere :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:...although I read yesterday there's some awful storm front about to hit you? Hope you'll be OK and will be thinking of you :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug:
You would NOT believe the grief my poor tree boys have received from the villagers while carrying out their instrcutions over the last two visits.
What I find interesting is that most people DO know where my front door is, and they know who I am.....but rather than come and tell me they have a problem with what I'm doing they
a) send anonymous threatening letters..this has been going on for years and the police have a full log
b) take it out on my workmen :mad:
b) report to the police on a spurious charge (last time it was because the concrete lorry pumping concrete into the bottom of my house to flood proof it blocked the pavement(one day only)...there was, of course, a pavement on the other side of the road but apparently the individual felt they shouldn;t have to cross over....the police thought it was a ridiculous waste of their time!
c) call whichever council will listen to them and send THEM out on a spurious charge.....Last time I apparently had a ton of rat poison on the grass verge....it was top dressing for my lawn, and the verge in question (which I mow every two weeks and maintain at my expense) is not council property as they embarassingly admitted when they checked the records :rotfl::rotfl:.... so they offered to flush out the drains instead (which are always blocked) :T:T:D
In the case of the slashing of the vegetation....... it probably will be a bit of a shock for some of the "greeener" villagers.....BUT....it WILL grow back, in much better shape, be better managed and provide much better habitats for the wildlife. And as I am footing the bill personally (and plan now to plant up with bluebells, primoses, anemones etc to reinstate as it must have been 100 years ago)......well quite frnakly my dear........[STRIKE]I don;t give a damn [/STRIKE] they can all just **d off! :rotfl::rotfl:
Hugs to you and let us know you're OK after the inclement weather

May I join the snotty ladies letter writing club? I sent a cracking one the other day to the peeps who did my website, it was a good un and today the MD rang me to apologise and how sorry she was to have lost a customer:rotfl:
The council have seen sense and appear to have reinstated my housing benefit and I know they have reinstated my council tax benefit. I note that they havent increased the housing benefit so I still have to find £131.66 each month towards my rent:rolleyes: At least I dont have to rob peter to pay paul - I also need to cut down on the business spends as my credit card is taking a huge hit, I have negotiated a fee for a stand at a wedding fair - I am getting it for £100 plus VAT instead of £175 plus VAT because I opted not to have the advertising (you may think this odd but the magazine is delivered to my mum and to be honest I am scared of her which is why I havent told her where I am living and havent told her that I am self employed:rolleyes: I don't have the energy to fight with her and can hear her disapproving voice ringing in my ear even now:rolleyes:). So Wol, it isnt just you who has problem parents.
Oh and that delicious chap I have been seeing (my ex from yonks ago) emailed me today which gave me a boost - it seems that me replying to his end it scaredy cat email by saying that I don't lose any sleep over him has made him come to his senses:rotfl: Horace is a sexy little minx:rotfl:
Anyway Wol - your picture is fab - I take it you are the lady in blue and smashed is that loony in pink?
I saw the Murray match - he was like a train..and just demolished the guy in 3 straight sets. Now I wonder who he will come up against in the semis and if he will reach the final?
The weather is going to get hotter - we have been promised 32 tomorrow and then we shall start getting storms - so if you live up the east side then you will be hot and stifling and if you live in the west you will be wet and if you live in the middle like me expect a lot of both:rolleyes:
I can remember going for a job with the EA once - as PA to the chief exec and I remember being interviewed by a scruff ball, I swear they had found her sleeping under a bridge, I must have sniffed either that or they didnt like my certificates (I keep them all together so there are professional qualifications mixed with a pole dancing certificate:rotfl:). I gave a good interview but I wouldnt have worked for them if they paid me because there was no way on this earth that I would share an office with stinky:eek:0 -

Good news on the benefits reinstatement...:j:j
.....glad you got a phone call from the mD but hope it means you got let off some of your bill....
,,,yep was getting worried about your profit and loss in view of the hits on your credit card recently ...seriously if we need to try some alternative S & M strategy (NO!!.......it's SALES & MARKETING Z!!!)....then let me know
Yep I am the loony in blue :j:j
:grouphug::grouphug: re scared to say anything ....look at it as the fact you are positively deciding to protect yourself from any unnecessary emotional turmoil and angst...which, by the way, is a GOOD thing
Murray will ONLY reach the final if I don;t watch:rotfl: (so don;t worry I'm not going to and in any case I cant even if i were tempted ......I'm out at Hampton Court flower show that day
)
Gotta go and [STRIKE]get rid of[/STRIKE] cook the stinky smoked haddock from my freezer.......:o:o
