Aftermath chez Wol2 –moving forwards after the flood

Hi Wol,
Just Bobbing on to say I hope everything goes Ok tomorrow. I read your comments about catch ups at the pub afterwards and have to say i agree. I have been to three this past couple of years and each time i enjoyed the catch ups, sort of makes it all bearable really.
Edit to say that i was amazed at one of my neighbours funeral about two years ago. Her hubby stood up and sung the most beautiful hymn in one of the best baritone voices i had ever heard. Absolutely moving ,amazing and inspiring. Elton had nothing on him for sheer poignancy, it was something i will never forget as it was a side of him i never knew and i have known them ever since i was born.

Thanx everyone.....well, that was the first funeral I've been to of a really close friend....same age as me and the "first" of our old gang to be laid to rest. I was dreading it because I (still) haven't had a good weep and was a bit concerned that it would all prove too much on the day. However.... it really was a celebration of his life, not grim at all. :j:j
The euology was given by one of the gang and it was such a brilliant, poignant yet hilarious recounting of all the crazy things we got up to together (including colouring in someone's parents carpet with felt tip pens to restore the pattern after pouring bleach on it to try and remove the after-effects of someone indulging too much at one of our teenage parties!) ..:rotfl::rotfl:...moving forward through his life to include more anecdotes for all the groups of people represented.
More old mates than expected were there......and it was really comforting to reminisce/catch up and renew old contacts. Big reunion now planned for the summer...:D
It has become very apparent during my counselling sessions over the last 18 months that my choices of "friends" and "partners" over the last 25 years since I left University has been somewhat "misguided". Those people, it would appear, have had a rather negative input into my life and most of them have now been left behind.
I have always, and particularly now, counted myself extremely fortunate therefore to have spent my teenage years growing up with such a powerful group of really lovely people.:A:A.a time when I was really happy.....which is why, having made contact with them all again last year, I think my friend's sudden and premature death was particularly distressing.
However I would also like to say that over the last 18 months, from the time when I crept onto MOT's thread and then found all you guys on DFW, I have also found some equally powerful and lovely people on here......as witnessed by all your empathy and support ...and I would just like to say that I really do appreciate you all and will continue to do so. Thank you all so very much. :T:A
Now all I need to do is get the bluidy house/bridge etc sorted out and we can have a real big shindig.......but looks like next year now rather than this...
