The new system is supposed to intervene only when the payments can not be agreed upon by both parties, it is going to be the power to jail those who refuse to pay as well as to employ baillifs to seize assests.

I doubt it will work as the present system apparently only gets money from 300,000 of the 1.4 million cases it deals with.

I would suspect that as people will arrange payments themselves, the £10 IS support will stop and the entire maintainence will count as income.
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.

Well it seems sensible to me. Let those who are quite happy to make their own arrangements make them, instead of hounding them, ond concentrate on those who won't pay.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

The csa has always sounded good in theory. It is the practise that is failing parents. As yet it is unclear whether parents who are not on benefits will ahve to amke their own arrangements, with no powers to enforce this process.

The Child Support Agency (CSA) is being axed, while absent parents face being electronically tagged, under plans to be announced by the government.
Parents will be encouraged to make their own arrangements over child maintenance, with a new agency focusing on parents who refuse to co-operate.

New powers would prevent absent parents from going out after work and allow passports to be confiscated.

    a good idea?

I'm trying to find out if existing payments still get paid  I phoned them up but they don't know what will be happening until later today :o I'm worried about what will happen to my regular payments because i pay my Direct debits out of it.

Also all these CSA threads should be merged together, it's confusing if they are all around the site

Kimberley, it couldn't be as bad for me. I occasionally receive maintenance but he has emigrated leaving a CSA debt of £2000+ ! so when he returns this weekend he may be in for a shock, I know this won't be implemented that quickly but its sure gonna 'put the wind up him' all I need now is for the prison system make a wing 'Guatamala (sp)' style for the wasters!Obviously this is my opinion not a reflection of MSE as a site!

So if he emigrated and coming back, surely he'll go back to escape it  Hope you get what you and your kids are owed.
