I have agreed to move to talkplustelecom yesterday. Is this wise?

I do use 18185, my only reservation is do I get charged when the person I am dialling is "engaged on another call".Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

I had Talk Plus Telecom on to me last week. It all sounded wonderful on the phone - 1.3 pence per hour for phone calls 24/7 + broadband up to 24mbs all for £17.42 inc vat. I think that was split £9.99 + £7.43 or thereabouts.
It took me three goes to get a sensible email out of them to confirm the terms - guess what - 1.3pence per minute for phone, it said they could cap at 10p per hour, what does that mean. Broadband for £14.99, no mention of line rental, although they did say the prices would be held for 60months - that's a long time.
Glad I didn't say yes on the phone.
well done to KimYeovil for reading those T&Cs0 -
Talk Plus Telecom took my line without consent when only information was requested. When I then tried to move they quoted Section 20.2 which talks about an early termination fee of £395 + VAT.
Now my line has been cut off - affecting my business greatly.
This sort of practice should be outlawed. Totally unethical and an outrageous practice.
I couldn't be more :mad:0 -
Ok all, I used to work for them and they are the dogiest around....mind you, universal telecom are even worse. They encourage sellers to belittle and argue with businesses with phrases like "What sort of businessman are you if you arent interested in saving money"Everything is done on a recorded line so there isnt a need for a signed contract. One thing to look out for is the 4p connection charge for every call you make. and you only get the 50% discount if you spend more than £15 a month on calls per line.Oh and one last thing, the owners(3 brothers) have a history of being investigated by ofcom and regularly change company names when it happens. Previous companies are lo-rate, platinum, elite calls and now they have changed from talk plus to optimum telecom because of an ofcom investigation about mis-selling earlier this month!! They keep changing ownership between the 3 to get around the regulation!!They are cheaper than BT because BTs prices were fixed but if you mention you have a better deal then BT will actually match the offer. They can save you money but always insist on a 2 year contract at least and there are better-less cowboy style organisations around0

Do not touch any of them with a barge pole. I was caught a year ago by Elite Calls, I have now had my phone cut off and receive an invoice for 395 + VAT, because I am trying to get back to BT. My line rental during the 12 month period was 8.50 inc vat per month, now it has now gone up to 16.95 per month + vat plus calls. No notification to warn me of the increase. Have contacted Trading Standards, and have engaged a solicitor. Daily Mirror and watchdog would be interested, as they were prosecuted when they were trading as Lo Call Telecom. Shame I did not know that a year ago.0

I had an unsolicited phone call to change my business supplier. (usual bill is about £200.00 a quarter inc VAT plus £29.00 for unlimited broadband - both with BT) I have just come to the end of a 3 year contract with BT and have had to Dial 9 before any outgoing call. There is no internal phone system - just one line with 1 phone, the broadband split and a terminal for a credit card machine that is only used a couple of times a week.
Talk Plus are wanting £86.00 for a years advance line rental then saying calls will be a lot cheaper. They say that I will have Broadband for £14.99 per month. They will send a router and the real bait .... a mobile broadband dongle with an 8GB monthly limit.
I haven't received the paperwork yet and I have 7 days from yesterday as a cooling off period. Contract would be 24 months.
Any advise or alternatives if this isn't the best for me?
DONT DO IT!!!!
I used to work for Talk Plus Telecom, they are a rip, and PS there is a 4p connection fee for EVERY CALL YOU MAKE!!!!
If you've done it, get out of it at the end of 24 months, and just to let you know those prices are only capped for the first year. You're lucky to get 24 months, usually it's 60 months. it's £89.22 plus VAT for a the first years line rental. Broadband is £15.99 PCM.
Talk plus telecome are a rip for another reason , their Kent branches got into a lot of trouble for mis-selling, so they changed the kent branches name to OPTIMUM CALLS!!! the onyl thing that changed is the local and national cals are at 0.9p instead of 1.3p.
PS they aren't cappped and 10p for Local and Nat calls or 30 for mobile calls for the hour. We just say that to get you in, Sales is a risky buiness.
PS; another reason that they are a con is, they paid me my wages, telling me i was paying NI and Tax, i called the NICO yesterday, i apparently haven't paid any NI or Tax. since i worked there.0 -
PS also;
THEY HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH BT OPENREACH / WHOLESALE.
Not a lot of people know this but BT Open reach are completely different to BT RETAIL!!!!! BT open Reach are just a BT GROUP BUSINESS!!!
They are a completely DIFFERENT TELECOMUNICATIONS PROVIDER, but they do keep you on the BT network though so you can easily switch backt o BT if need be and TBH even though BT can't lower the prices until 2013 they can offere PACKAGES which lower costs.0 -
Call them NOW and CANCEL!! What ever the bait they dangle, once your year is up you will be clobbered with a 100% rise in line rental for starters. You will then want to go back to BT and they will try every trick in the book to stop you, plus issue you with a 'breach of contract' invoice for £395 + VAT per line. When you refuse to pay their iniquitous charges they will cut you off and then the fun begins.0
