  • Thanks Lewby, I'm actually aiming for £200.

I'm thinking aside from the extra cash spent in 'top up' shopping, the time I will save in those frantic £20 dashes, it's rarely less than 30 minutes, plus fretting about whats for dinner. If I did a time and motion study reckon I could get myself an extra hour a day. Now there a hundred ways to spend that !

Good news on the tax code for you though, just a few quid a month makes a difference, I guess the trick is to keep tabs on it. If you look at the big picture it could be 6 months car tax or the TV licence in your pocket.

I've ceased drinking for a while and if I'm going to be brutally honest that saves me £2 a day, just two cans of lager, not much but not needed. Just have to get my head around the smoking, which would save me £100 a month.

OK, so 28 days of sensible spending....we can do that!

I am not going to have a target as such, just going to write down what I actually spend, and then see how at the end of the month it could have been improved on. Hopefully the fact that I am writing it down might just focus my mind a bit - I have never been able to maintain a spending diary but surely if I am only doing it for 28 days, I should be able to do that!

  • Well Hypno I'm not doing very well, already managed to spend the best part of £70 ! I've written it all down and can see some very bad, subconcious and even lazy purchases ie getting caster sugar at corner shop £1.89 !!! instead of writing a list and buying it at MrM's two hours earlier. And guilty pleasures of coke - the real thing - £2.60 for 2.

Hope you are faring better ?

  • Ok all budgets out of the window - again. I know I'm like a broken record with this failing and that breaking but please no more. I had a leaking roof fixed earlier this week at the handsome price of £400. And new boiler installed for nearly 4 times that so Friday the 13th for me ? Postie delivers gas and leccy bills totallg £420. New boiler starts leaking all over downstairs toilet floor within hours of installation, car refuses to start - flat battery.

Instead of drowning my sorrows I have been assertive and positive and deal with it all. Plumber came round and fixed leak - it was just a bit of tweaking.

Bit of early morning research on car battery replacement - prices range from £75 to £50 by local car part dealers, can't afford that. Called AA after work, they get it started - I have a teaspoon of petrol - but does mention that it is the original battery, car is over 9 years old ! Trip to local friendly garage, job done in 10 minutes £35.

So I've done it, should be pleased with myself, spent a fortune on this house this week, and am desperately skint for the next ten days, but thats it no more. I can take these hiccups one by one but wave after wave.

Please send positive vibes this way.

  • I'm back again !
I've noticed a recurring theme with my to-ing and fro-ing on this board, basically as soon as the gas and leccy bills arrive I revert to an MSE way of life. I start with all good intentions, loose change in piggies, daily clicks, quidco etc. Within a month I slip back into bad habits.

£250 leccy, £150 gas this time. Well last year I decided to put £20 a week into an online savings account towards these utilities, didn't last long, and although I still have said account I really have to do this to avoid this situation again.

Started a grocery diary yesterday, have meal planned and shopped for the next week.

Paint brush and sealant skills are improving, and my attempts at gardening are a bit scary.

So back on the wagon - again ! (Mods not sure if this should be moved to diary forum..)

Window cleaner came round yesterday, meaning two things...one I have to do the insides, two I now have a separate piggy for window cleaning costs. Owed for last time aswell so thats £18 not budgeted for.

I love early mornings and have just come back from a peaceful walk around the local woodland trust hill, sort of sets you up for the day doesn't it ?

Here we go shiny new month. Up at 5 this morning all motivated for some real life changes.
Been playing with snowballs again. Worked out a savings/budget strategy for utility bills.
Grocery spending diary all set up.

DFD now Feb 2014. Will try and knock a year off that.

Been reminded of dooyoo reviews by the lovely Hypno and after logging on again after many years am pretty cross with myself for letting so many points go unredeemed.

Will attempt to refresh my account and restart my dooyoo career.

    Have a positive day all.

    Good Morning world.
Feeling good as it seems we have the sunshine for another day here in Dorset. I love the sunshine, makes me feel so much better.

Have 48 hours of being skint left ! Have had to dip into my miniscule savings to get through this week. Council tax and water rates are due so I'm really down the the shrapnel.

I want to remember how being this short feels, this isn't a low point it's just a milestone, a little flag to recall that it doesn't have to be this way every month. If I stick to the gameplan I can do it.

Still battling with the cigarettes, that is a big financial waste, going to get there.
