Sometimes it seems as though life is one long struggle after another but as Tony Robbins says (motivational speaker) "The only people that don't have problems are dead dudes."
Problems are part of life...and you are coping. This diary can be a new place to vent your frustrations, celebrate your conquests and take comfort in the fact we are all in the same boat. We are only 10 days in to the new year and I have already had an unplanned for £600 MOT bill and god knows how much I will be paying the dentist for my newly cracked tooth next week. But I refuse to feel down, there are too many good things in life to look forward to, they keep my mouth watering and my will strong to pay off these debts and have a better life for me and my family.
Good luck to you x x You can do it x x I look forward to reading your diary. X x0 -
Yes Bamby, there are too many good things in life, and I want a piece of the pie !Bambywamby wrote: »But I refuse to feel down, there are too many good things in life to look forward to, they keep my mouth watering and my will strong to pay off these debts and have a better life for me and my family.
Sunday morning brings a sale from Amazon of £16.00, throw that into my newly formed bathroom fund.
I know it should be thrown at the debts but honestly if you saw this bathroom...it's the original 1950's 'suite' bath enamel wearing away from previously dripping taps, wobbly floorboards, dodgy tiling, a toilet cistern that someone once painted a mural on (!) and I actually think the sink could be trendy it's so old ! It's not a nice place to be.
Playing with the snowball and I've paid £7,700 off since Feb 1st last year, DFD is Sept 2013, I know I can do it, aswell as save for the bathroom.
More tea needed before I get to grips with the day.DC.

not saying that you haven't thought of all of this, but are you able to up your income by doing the good old surveys or whatever? If you are doing loads of work in you job or jobs, then fair enough, but maybe someone else in the house hold cand do them?
good luck with your new determination. And don't forget that sometimes on the competition board there are competitions for vouchers from DIY stores or bath room suites to be won, so maybe you could get it replace for free.
Also i sometimes notice on my local freecycle people offering their old suites from bath rooms which might be better than what you have.....
good luck
chevI want a job that is less than an hour driving away from my house! Are you listening universe?

Do you have a friend who likes decorating but hates ironing or gardening or something? Could you do a swap or get them to help. I can't wallpaper, I fill, sand and paint walls instead. Its very therapeutic.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500

Great ideas thank you. But you know as you say moo2moo I'm actually going to have a stab at this decoration malarky. I like anything that sounds therapeutic

Chev, was big on the surveys and comps, perhaps not as hot on them recently but will pick them upagain.DC.

Hi there and well done for getting motivated for the New Year. I guess we can all identify with letting things slip in the house while we are desperately trying to clear our debts, but your surroundings are important to keeping you motivated too!
I was watching that programme that was on this week "Living without Money" (quite scary at first, but amazing how the bloked fared for the 2 weeks stint!) and he joined a group called LETS - its basically local groups who barter their services with other people. i.e. he decorated a room for someone in return for bed and board.
The good thing about LETS is that it seems that every skill is worth the same i.e. walking a dog is 25 "units" an hour and decorating a room is 25 units an hour. I think I have got that right, but am sure someone will be along to correct me if I misunderstood.
Anyway it might be worth you looking to see if you have a local group?

*Wanders in aimlessly with sealant gun after making a right mess around bath edge yesterday *
Well first step to DIY enthusiast status wasn't entirely trouble free ahem ..(anyone with any sealant gun knowlege please see my post on the DIY board) But on the upside I had a go ! OBNW, on my way...if you are sure....
Paid everyone at least minimum payments this month, with £100 extra paymentson my nasty evil, horrid HFC CC which still has £5172 left to pay off at a astounding 33.9%. Still it was nearly double that in Feb 2008. Would love to get it down to sub £5k in the next month.
Happy Friday everyone.DC.

Just read your thread - good luck. You could join us in the £20k off by xmas 09 challenge if you want extra motivation (I'm only pledging 10k as there's no way I could do 20, but some folks are even going for 30!)0

Hi Sarah
Did join the challenge but only lasted a week ! Just before Christmas everything started to either break, leak or fall apart etc.
I'm pretty useless at challenges, if there was a challenge to drop out of challenges I could be a contender though.
I think mini targets (ie getting the HFC card below 5k) and general lurking soaking up the motivation keep me jogging along.. As soon I stop visiting this forum I fall off the wagon and roll down the hill to Big Spenders Avenue !DC.
