    The lid springs have broken
Give Miele a call they will send you new lid springs - I have never come across this before.

My Cat and Dog is about 10 yrs old. The springs went on mine years ago, so I just abandoned the lid, didn't stop it working. Then the middle of the metal pole got loose where you push it in to retract and it kept retracting when I was vacuuming, I fixed this with an elastic band! Then the brush stopped picking up efficiently the rollers weren't going round properly, I took it to bits cleaned it, but still no good, my sister in law gave me hers as she had bought a new one, hers had the same problem. So now i vacuum with the hard floor attachment, which picks up fine. The final straw now though is the elastic band repair no longer works and I can't vacuum without it retracting so I think now is the time to buy a new on.

I am sticking with Miele as it has been good and I like all it's functions/design. I am not sure which one to get, I don't really need a cat n dog as I have no pets, some other models are cheaper. Is it worth the extra for the cat n dog even if you don't need it for per hairs?
