What vacuum cleaner?

My 4 year old Dyson Animal cleaner is dead. To be honest it has always been rubbish and yes, I have cleaned the filter etc but it just has virtually no suction at all now.
Can anyone reccommend a new one. I'm not particularly fussed whether it is bagless or not, or upright or not but it does have to deal with daily cleaning of carpets with dog hair and a builder husband who is always coming in the house dropping plaster dust everywhere.
Many thanks

Oreck had ours for 9yrs, no probs at all. They are not cheap but will last for years. They also have a sale on at the moment. http://www.oreck.co.uk/products/vacuums.ouk
They also do a 30 day risk free trial.

It's wierd alot of people will swear a Dyson is the best and I had one of the
DC04's and you know what, it was pooI was lucky if it picked
up any dirt
I now have a VAX 1800 watt purple hoover and it's miles better than a Dyson
and costs less. Only prob is, it's heavy, so guess who does the
hoovering, not me"I may be dead, but I'm still pretty. Which is more than I can say for you."- Buffy (Prophecy Girl)0 -
On the Which website Miele come tops - although they haven't reviewed the new upright - S7 yet I saw it at the Good Food Show in Dec and was very impressed. Unlike the Dyson (I too have an animal and boy arent they brutes, lol!) they go under furniture and fold all the way to the floor.
From about £250 - £370 depending on which level u want.Greyer by the minute - Older by the hour - Wiser by the day0 -
I replaced my knackered Dyson with a Miele Cat & Dog and it's 100 times better than the Dyson ever was0

Have been through a fair number of hoovers (none of them cheap) and also was less than impressed with Dyson - think its either love or hate with them.
In the end bought a henry hound for upstairs and was so impressed bought a regular Henry for downstairs. The bags seem to last forever and only criticism i can make it that if you havent got somewhere specific to store them then they can take up slightly more space than a standard upright.
I always wondered why i saw them in hotels, bars, vets, and even my builder used one when he did the extension. They are simple but very robust and sub £100.0 -
We love our miele, it's far better than any other vacuum we've ever used, and the lovely self-sealing dustbags last for ages.0

Hi
Let's just say that my job involves using a lot of vacum cleaners.
Miele must be the best (hair, dust, carpet, hard floor, noise, weight, anything) it is realy the best!!!!Money.....0 -
Got through many Dysons, drove me mad. My mum did the same and we both bought a Sebo. They are wonderful! Can be taken to pieces if blocked. I will never buy a Dyson again. Had 6 years and still going strong! Noticed them at several hotels, Champneys Health Farm etc. too.0

I wasn't expecting anyone to mention Miele as it doesn't appear to be in the same public view as say Dyson or Hoover.
Apparently Miele are the most reliable make to buy and you can the red coloured version for about £120 if you look around the net.0
