Now perhaps The Troll is correct and I can save £150 a year(and pay approx £18 a month) for the above; I must admit I haven't investigated fully.

One things for sure comparing like for like where possible, you want make MASSIVE Savings on Phone/Broadband if you use UW as suggested.Eg

Membership Fee £1.76
Cheapest Broadband/Phone £19.99 (LLU) 26.99 (Non LLU)
24/7 calls £7 plus (As you would not qualify for free calls, not enough services without energy).
Caller Display £1
2nd Line £2.

Grand Total Approx £32 a month. £39 if you live in non llu area.
• Here are the facts you have missed out, goodfellow.

No minimum contract length with BT?

No. Minimum 12 months commitment. Fact

Think Bt's offering is rubbish after a few months and want to switch away? No problem, sir, that's 9 months remaining x £32 = £288. Have a nice day, sir. (UW charge £50 if you cancel in the first 12 months. Slight difference)

40gb monthly download limit on BTs cheapest package?

No. 10gb. Using 40GB/mth with BT's cheapest package would cost an extra £9.00 per month. £99 over the course of the 12 month contract. If you have kids who regularly stream video/iplayer/watch again etc, 10gb/mth is a puny allowance. Fact.

Up to 24mb speeds with BT?

No. Up to 8mb max. Potentially 3 times as fast. Fact.

Free itemised and paper billing with BT?

No.
All prices shown are with Direct Debit and paper-free billing otherwise add £2.73 a month (£1.50 for payment processing fee levied by BT Payment Services Limited, a BT Group company, plus £1.23 without paper-free billing discount).
. ANOTHER £14 over the course of the min contract. Fact.

The point I am trying to make is it's fairly easy to pick out only the facts that support your particular argument. These things are far more complicated than that but don't let that affect your 'spin'.

Would love a link to Hugh Jeego's £32/mth package that includes all he has listed, btw. TIA!

Thank you.

I actually had a look at the UW website.

It seems to me that for wireless you pay £24.99 - not £19.99.

It didn't say anything about getting free texts, internet access away from my house in a hot spot, comprehensive security package, etc.

It seems to me that if I pay UW an extra £830 a year for my gas and electricity(I am a heavy user on BG's fixed to 2010 tariff) I could get a phone/internet package that is nowhere near as good as that I have from BT, for about the same price as I currently pay.

Not certain where the £150 a year savings could be found;)

P.S.
I get several free BT Internet email addresses. Please don't tell me that UW have xxxxxxxxxx@UW.co.uk email addresses - what a status symbol that would be!!

P.P.S.
Just checked up with BT - I(well my children) get 200 free texts a month, 350 minutes on a BT openzone anywhere there is a hotspot - again my children use this mainly) I also found out that from 16th January my 0845 and 0870 numbers will be free.

I looked at UW and for me the only thing they can beat my provider on is the "Up to 24meg"

Which is something that would be impossible where I live at the moment anyway. If UW can supply a 24meg service out here I would be very surprised.

But unless I'm very much mistaken, this is the gas and electric thread right?

The OP asked about UW on the gas and electric thread and the general answer is that for G&E they are NOT the cheapest out there.

People may bleat on about how great the customer service is and how great the benefits are but the fact is you are paying over the odds for something you could get cheaper elsewhere. If you have done your homework and still want to go with them then fine, personally I prefer to save money (being this is moneysaving expert and not greatcustomerservice expert) and not pay over the odd for something.

What dishonesty?

How honest is it of your colleague uw rep to post here (in a thread where someone wants info about uw) that if you join up to uw you can also get money off your shopping at sainsburys?
if you shop at Sainsburys you can save on your shopping too..
In fact it's a lie, which all you uw reps must have seen, but not one chose to correct him!

Even after I corrected his misleading information, neither he (choc) nor any of you others made any attempt to appear ethical and tell the truth.

And you ask why people say there is dishonesty associated with the type of posts made by uw reps?

Hi Quentin

Happy New Year

I feel we are getting back into semantics again.

With the new "Cashback" Card, I can make savings on my shopping. The savings will then appear on my next bill. From my point of view, when I go shopping at Sainsburys and spend £100, I love the fact that I will get £5 off my next UW Bill. At the end of the day, I am £5 better off.

This ignores all the "negative" aspects, such as cost of the card, cost of the top-up, potential loss of interest, less protection etc. At the end of the day, I do most of my shopping at the outlets included in the "cashback" offer and I know I will be better off each month than I was before.

Again, it will always be horses for courses, but for me the card has provided another way of saving money on my household bills.

I also hope that we will hear very soon that UW (and all the other providers) will be offering to include 0870 and 0845 calls in their inclusive packages as UW do guarantee to be "cheaper" than BT for calls.

Mike.

Where does it say that UW guarantee to be cheaper then BT for calls.
Their 0845/0870 calls are not cheaper then BT at the present time.

BT dont charge you £1 if your chargeable calls are less then a £1 a month.

Hi billsavings

The website makes the generic statement...

"Guaranteed savings compared to BT"

and the statement in the brochure and tariff guide.....

"Every month we compare the price we've charged for your calls against BT's current prices, and we will give you an additional credit if necessary to ensure we are the cheapest"
