[BT] Unlimited Anytime Plan - Is this good value?

Hello again.
Having called Onetel and asking them to match the BT 24/7 package, the best they could offer was £6 per month off our package which we thought reasonable to bring the quarterly price down from £47.97p to £29.97p. However about 20mins later they have phoned back and told me they can't do it and only give us £3 discount. I told them it was unacceptable AND unprofessional to go back on their word and that we would consider the BT offer. The Onetel package offers upto 60mins mobile phone calls, BT don't.
Now having looked at the Aug. 08 bill - still can't find Nov. one -, the mobile/other calls 0845/0870 are added together. There were 182 in total and we were charged £9.38p. Although I haven't counted, the majority are mobile calls and the 0845/0870 are what is charged for. Therefore would we save anything by switching if there are over 100 mobile calls over 3months or how much above £59 would it be costing, and would it be worth switching?
Your advice greatly appreciated.0 -
 ANY IDEAS PLEASE...?? I just don't trust BT and worry by changing there will be a catch, higher charges somewhere else.............0

I was called by BT this evening. Annoying since I am registered with the Telephone Preference Service. I looked into a comparison with Tiscali's Anytime II service which I have overlayed onto a BT line. I keep a BT line because I get my broadband through Zen Internet who are the gods of broadband. Zen would have to ritually murder my children to get me to move to another company firstly because they are super reliable and secondly because when you phone them they know what they are talking about.
Anyway, I work from home and use the phone from about 9am to 10pm at night. I regularly call, France, Spain, USA, Canada. The catch with BT Unlimited Anytime plus International Freedom is the following.
1. They have a fair use policy which limits you to 600 minutes a month. Just looked at my last Tiscali bill and I had many about 1000 minutes of calls. 600 minutes would probably be just enough for a normal user that wasn't using the phone for business purposes such as conference calls from home, but if you are then you;ll bust the 600 min/month limit and BT will screw you. Tiscali is uncapped.
2. While BT they do let you call more countries, many of them I hardly ever call anyway. I can always call these using SkypeOut. The most useful for me would be Russia, but I've never seen this on any bundled inclusive package from any firm.
3. I use www.saynoto0870.com so last month my 0845/0870 nill was £1.31 (occasionally you cannot find the number or you are in a rush so you surcumb to temptation by saynoto0870 is generally 98% accurate and I swear by it). Every other call I made was inclusive and my bill was £8.11
4. BT are a'holes so they'd need to be virtually free for me to move to them. My annual bill with Tiscali is about £120. I can live with that.0 -
i was looking at BT's phone and broadband packages, but its still more expensive than the £23 a month im paying with tiscali, plus there is a 10GB cap on the download amount too0

Our broadband is with Virgin, but thats another story.
I think because a lot of mobile calls are made (even though we have mobiles as well) if I change to BT Unlimited despite the fact they give a discount, I am concerned it will cost a lot more even with any discount they might offer. With the onetel-talktalk, I get 60mins.mobile calls included per month. Don't need or use International.
Still wonder what comments about this anyone else might have about changing?:A0 -
I am suspicious of BT. Having left them years ago and only using their line rental, we have our calls through one-tel/talktalk. We get free calls 24/7, other than 0870/0845 at the moment. They called me saying it would cost £4.85p per month, unlimited free calls any UK landline, free 0870/0845 numbers, 12month contract. Sounds too good to be true.
This is BT afterall, so where is the catch? I don't want to sign up then regret it.
the offer is true i also have it and have been on it for months now,its brilliant ive never had any problems with it i save ££s more now than i was paying before0 -
Thanks Hevababy (similar to my real name....) but do you also make mobile calls? On that Aug. bill there were more mobile calls within the 60min allowance that were mainly free than the 0845/0870 numbers that we had to pay for?
I'm just concerned now by changing BT will charge a lot more for the mobile calls despite them supposedly giving some discount??0 -

From the figures you have given you pay about £16 a month for the OneTel Call Bundle, plus approx £3 a month for 0845/0870 calls, and your mobile calls are inclusive.
So your still be paying approx £11 a month more compared to BTs £4.85p a month offer,if you take off £3 reduction offered. Which means if your BT Mobile charges are less then £11 a month your likely to make some savings.
BT will charge you exactly what they say on tin for a mobile call on the unlimited package.
8p connection and 7.34 a minute.

The 60 inclusive mobile minutes you get on Onetel would cost approx £4.40 a month on BT plus connection charges.0 -

And if he/she used 18185 for mobile calls (@ 5p connection and 6p/min ) £3.60 + connection charges.
Which is what I do, £4.85 to BT + mobiles via 18185.0 -

As your on the £4.85 BT plan you could reduce your bills even further if you make daytime mobile calls by pointing an 0870 number at the mobile target number, and call it free from your inclusive minutes 8 a.m. - 6 p.m., Monday-Friday
