With Line rental it works out to be £15.12 for 24/7 free calls
is this good value for money?
jsut wanted to know your thoughts.
or would it be cheaper to go for the free evening and weekend package and use another service like 18185 for day time calls?

If you regularly make more then 23 peak geographical calls a week its worth taking, otherwise the 18185 peak rate option is cheaper. Plus of course you dont pay for 18185 when your not using it eg holidays ! unlike the 24/7 call package.
However if you have to call 0845/0870 numbers on a regular basis, and you have no alternative number the 24/7 call package may prove to be a better bet now that these calls are soon to be included.
18185 would still be cheaper for any mobile calls you might make.0 -
thanks for the info, it has certainly got me thinking now0

We are on it, you also get 200 free texts and free caller display too which most places charge for.
Mobile calls are charged at 7ppm as well which is pretty cheap, plus friends and family auto update, so it works it out for you and applies the 10% automatically to the 10 most called numbers every bill.
Its all swings and roundabouts i guess, for us it saves dialing a prefix, you need to work out when you use the phone the most and what type of call.0 -

I'm on it too but I don't understand how it applies a 10% reduction to a FREE call. Are they giving you a rebate? Or is that just mobiles?0 -
It comes off mobile numbers for us.0

Unlimited calls to UK landlines at any time Call rates to UK mobiles – only 7.34p/min all day, every day† Friends & Family discount, BT Answer 1571 voicemail and more 200 text messages from your landline included0 -
I am suspicious of BT. Having left them years ago and only using their line rental, we have our calls through one-tel/talktalk. We get free calls 24/7, other than 0870/0845 at the moment. They called me saying it would cost £4.85p per month, unlimited free calls any UK landline, free 0870/0845 numbers, 12month contract. Sounds too good to be true.
This is BT afterall, so where is the catch? I don't want to sign up then regret it.0 -

Are you sure you get free calls at the moment? I suspect you pay for a package similar to the £4.85/month which you'd have to pay BT for if you "un-CPS'd".
How much do OneTel/Talk Talk charge for 0845/0870 calls? How many do you make?
Do you use BT's Caller Display and/or 1571? Moving back would mean you'd automatically make the necessary number of 'qualifying calls' to get them free.
The catch is that you would not be able to 'downgrade' to BT's Unlimited Evenings & Weekend Plan or their Unlimited Weekend Plan within the period (12 or 18 months?) of the contract.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Thanks Heinz. I do use 1571, don't have a 'caller display unit' - not really bothered - but I am going to look for my onetel-talktalk bill and possibly ask them if they will match it. The majority of my calls are daytime, hardly ever in the evening, and I look on the 'say no to 0870 site' for an alternative number. All calls that are 01/02 are free at the moment and there is some discount for mobile calls.
So what do you suggest now?0
