HAHAHA stop sobbing - life begins at 30! Men reach their peak at that age :D:D
    Really? I hadn't noticed ... :rotfl:

Women go downhill from 25 :confused: (luckily for me I still look 18 so I'm okay :p)
But then I hadn't noticed that either. And although I do have those digits in my age (2 and 5, not 8 and 1) I was a 'patient' for a student doctors' exam yesterday, and more than one asked if I could be pregnant. :D

Hi, going In august for 9 nights. Can anyone recommend any beaches/ side trips? At the moment I'm looking at going to Hershey world for a couple of nights and maybe atlantic city.Just wondering If anyone had any ideas.Loving the piccies by the way:D
How old are you? We drove down to Wildwood in August last year. It's not a place I would necessarily recommend, someone here described it as like the 'armpit of Blackpool', but the boys had a good time. Cape May was more our sort of place, but I can't imagine we'd have wanted to spend more than a day there. But we all enjoyed whale watching on our last day, from Cape May.

    BTW, It Will Be HOT!

  • Hi Traveller,
Hershy world is quite good a bit like alton towers but not as big, will be great for the older kids if they are speed demons like i am lol, the chocolate factory is really good for the younger children, just 1 word of advice, dont buy the personalised slabs of chocolate if your'e going to eat them because the chocolate tastes like and smells like baby sick... ok for gifts tho. infact you will recieve a complimentary bar of chocolate when you go in and it is the same chocolate, so you can try before you buy.

Now, this is why i just love NYC.

in the UK, a large pizza is at the most 14"..

now, i'm just looking at the all time great Lombardi's pizza, glancing at the menu, and read this line

    Small 14” (six slices)

aaah.. the beauty about NYC, a large UK is a small in NYC..

I did have to send him a text message this morning saying that I didn't know how to twitter back at him, but he has a link to his daily twitterings on his blog, so I read it there.

My text said get up now and finish that essay ... :rotfl: That's after he twittered that his sleep patterns had gone to pot and his essay hadn't progressed since they gave a snow extension last week. He hasn't replied.

OK, the older children will LOVE Wildwood (you have both shops and beach although whether you'll want anything in the shops is another matter, I didn't), and the 15 month old won't care. However it's not a day trip: we did it by
    1. catching the subway to Grand Central Station, where we spent a couple of hours just gaping,
    2. train to North White Plains where the Hertz depot is right outside the station and there's not too much traffic so it's easy to practice
    3. drove to New Brunswick and stayed in the Holiday Inn and used their washing machine,
    4. on to Wildwood where we stayed 3 nights at the Lollipop Motel which was not the high point of our stay so book EARLY if you want somewhere better although from looking at TripAdvisor that's about as good as it gets ...
    5. The boys (16, 18 and 21) were meeting a group of online friends and we felt quite comfortable with them disappearing to do so, we spent one day on the Boardwalk which was MORE than enough for us, then a day at Cape May, and on our last morning we did the Whale Watching thing before driving back to New Brunswick,
    6. and finally on our last day we had a leisurely drive back to JFK airport, passing and successfully identifying Coney Island.
Just be aware that they will ROAST on the beach, and the only shade is what you bring yourself (you may be able to hire). My boys STUPIDLY put sun cream on, then swam, and didn't put any more cream on, so we had three lobsters at the end of THAT day.

Actually if you're the only adult I'm not sure how well Wildwood would work. It did all feel very safe, lots of police in shorts and t-shirts, no drunkenness on the beach or boardwalk, but it depends how far out of your sight you'll let the 10 and 12 year old, and it's a very long boardwalk. It wasn't my kind of thing, or DH's. It's a long time since I was 35, not that I think it would have been my kind of thing then.

There are probably closer places if you don't want such a long side trip.

Apologies for waffling on, off topic, but that tip about car hire still holds if you're going out of NYC, who WAS that nice man who suggested it?
