calm down people.. lets get back onto the topic of New York...

but this page now has too many smilies on here... ugh..

    ok... tipping in bars...

bar hopping is really a british thing, and in NYC, the locals seem to go to one bar, and stay there all night, and this is where the tipping works..

normally, i stick to the $1 a drink rule, but if i know i'm staying a while, the first drink will have $2 tip on it, and then after 2 more drinks, I'll normally get one for free, the illusive buy back. Or, the bartender sometimes offers a shot of something strong, etc etc... depends on the establishment though, and i would have no clue what happens in the upper class establishments, as i don't frequent them!

I'm going to be there for my 27th Birthday, 2 days after my marathon (which means I can booze up and no early morning runs necessary) :D:D:D:D:D

So you're going before me anyway...we're still trying to find somewhere very cheap to stay though so it'll probably be ridden with bed bugs or something - that should make you feel better :p:p

very cheap? try the hostels, you can probably still get rooms at around £10 a night, not a hotel though....

    Thanks Marky,

Chelsea Star and Candy are options at the moment - although Hotwire seems to have some amazing deals on for the days we want to be there so we'll see in a few weeks when we book it...

Also that Asda travel has pulled up an option with shared bathroom for £350 each including flights for 4 nights - that's pretty good I think :)

well, asda travel have flights at £230, so you're still looking at £120 for the room there, you probably could get cheaper via hotels.com and quidco...
