Hotel is room only though ....
I know some people have a travel kettle when the hotel does not have tea making facilities (for example in Las Vegas). This could save you a bit if both of you need a coffee fix twice or more a day!
I am sure others will come along to tell you that you can have a cheap breakfast (coffee and bagel with cream cheese) easily in NY. To be honest, we had breakfast included, so I wasn't really looking and only saw the more conspicuous tourist places with big and expensive breakfasts.
Some of the places you mention do have an entry fee, so you might want to subtract that from your budget. Off course you can see the Sliberty from the free ferry, but you cannot climb to the top... it really depends on what you'd like to do.0 -
im going on the 25th march for 4 nights 5 days, cant wait. It my first time. Going for hubbys 30th with my two sisters so theres 4 of us. Still need to sort out airport transfers for the 4 of us (any tips guys?) and waiting for mine and my sis passport to come (sent it last week) so i can do the visas!
Im so excited! Cant wait. I wanna see the esb, totr, statue of liberty, walk on th brooklyn bridge, times sq and SHOPPING!!!! Spending a morning/afternoon at woodbury common but havent sorted out what im doin when (any tips?)
Im also waiting for the exchange rate to get a little better, i think il giv it till 2nd week in march till i get that unless a good deal comes up!
Any advise tips and moneysaving ideas would be great.
Thanks, Maria x0 -
Hi Maria, bet you cant wait NY will most certainly live up to and exceed your expectations I am sure.
Theres 3 of options of getting into the city, I have done all 3.
You can get the airtrain which means airtrain to jamaica station (queens) then subway to 34th street station then subway to your hotel Its approx 9 dollars per person one way and can be a little difficult with cases getting on and off.
A shared shuttle- I was last picked up and first dropped off when I got it so very lucky, some people are not and can be on here for upto 2 hours if one of last dropped off.
Or theres a cab- It will fit 4 large suitcases so if theres 4 of you shouldnt be a problem its about $60 all in toll & tip.
I'd go with the taxis, I always will in future too. Plus with there being 4 of you the cost is cheap.
I have been to Woodbury common, like most places in new york its quieter to go in the morning so if you can go first thing then it will be less crowded. It is also quieter midweek instead of at the weekend.
Have you booked/payed for your tickets yet? Its about $40 each.
Top tip, go onto website and find out all the stores that you want to go to, print off the map and mark down each store so that you go to them stores first and follow the map as your going around woodbury common then if theres anytime left before your due to leave you can go to other stores not the the list which you have seen when walking past. If your anything like me ( I love to shop ) i say morning/afternoon but when I get there and see all the shops next minute its evening, closing time and I havent been in the shops i wanted t. So if you make your list first you can go to your favourate ones or only go early afternoon instead until closing so that way you know you wont spend all day there.
Fingers crossed for the dollar but its been the same for a few months now. I got $1.64 in Nov which i was very happy with, from Fairfx.New York ♥..........These street will make you feel brand new, Big lights will inspire you.

I agree and I also found Carrie's apartment - Perry Street suprisingly small street.
I will go early morning too as might have better chance of getting a picture on the steps as I have heared they dont let you anymore because of the people that live there ( getting annoyed).

there are 4 of us also....4 cases....would it cost much more to book a limo ? a friend said its around the same price as a cab for 4 ?0 -
I have only ever got one on my arrival into JFK, theres always lots outside the airport. I did look into Dial 7 & Carmel and the cost was about the same as a cab for 2 people when I done a quote on there website but when I put in quantity of suitcases (4) The price went up becomming more than a cab all in & that was without toll/tip so decided to just get cab as cheaper for me as only the two of us.
Have never looked into a Limo, again as only ever go with one other person so would be expensive for two people but I have also heared that you can get a good price so maybe somone else can give some information on a limo?New York ♥..........These street will make you feel brand new, Big lights will inspire you.

Thanks for your quick responce, i havent booked anything for woodbury yet, was gonna do it on the day. Were staying at hilton garden inn times sq so the station where the bus leaves is walking distance.
I think il get a cab to the hotel, not sure what we are gonna do on the way back as we will have more luggage! (2 suitcases each and hand luggage!) How much is a cab anyway?
Thanks, Maria0 -

The cab is approx $60-$65 including tolls, tip etc etc etc.
Regarding your suitcases on the last journey back to JFK there were 4 of us with 5 bags between us and it all fitted fine and funky in a cab, however it was a larger yellow cab, yellow cabs come in all shapes and sizes now from the bog standard cab to prius'es up to people carriers, so there will always be a cab to fit your needs.
Personally I wouldnt bother with woodbury common, you need to allow at least a day and its $40's each to get there and back, add to that the prices are often the same as the bargains you can get in manhattan.Live each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0 -
Yes, the concretes were wonderful, the curly fries as well, but I did not find our burger or hotdog that special, good but they did not match my expectation. Maybe because it was over so quick since we were starving and they are quite small.
According to Mrs Phatbear she recognises the description of "small and over too quick" you are quite right they are small and you really need 2 for a meal.
My issues with wendys is two fold, the 1st time we went there my goodlady managed to knock the worlds largest cup of coke over me, and now thanks to pavlovian conditioning I flinch everytime I pass a wendys. Also I find their burgers quite greasy, they look nice and are huge for the price but they always seem to drip with fat.
On a different, but slightly same'y theme, has anyone ever noticed that McDonalds, in particular the Big Mac, is different in the States, initially I thought it was me but being a Big Mac lover i was able to confirm my suspicions with multiple testings.Live each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0
