  • Stop it:(
My delta flight actually landed quite a bit early, both going and coming back which was nice. Think we arrived an hour early in England and about half an hour early arriving in NY.

22 days to go, this is starting to drag now...lol...

Also been looking at the Top of the Rock tour.. Never been able to go there, is it any good?

  • Kd-I went up there after reading so much about it on here. We did Empire in the day and then the rock at night, I loved and much prefered the Rock! The lifts are really cool. It was so empty when we went as went quite late which I think worked to our advantage. The top is really nice and you can see the views from inside or outside. The view was just mindblowing, especially at night. When we were at the empire state it reminded me of being in a cattle market, you were just shoved along these roped off areas, if it was busy I can imagine it would be pure hell.
I just found the rock a bit more eye pleasing and interactive.
  • Sorry meant to add; we didn't do an actual tour, just walked in, paid and walked about. I can't imagine what they would tour you on? There are loads of images on the walls with bits of history written alongside it, then further on they show some small films and then we went up!

aww... you've spoilt the whole lift thing for everyone who hasn't gone.... shhhh..

but yeah..... the Rock is better... it gives you the iconic view including the empire state building, when taking photos...

i've done the rock twice, and this time i'm hopefully, (if i haven't drank too much beer) a sunset trip up to the top...

Will you do morning sunset or night sunset? The sun was just going down when we were at the Empire...was very pretty.
  • I have been looking at the New York Passes, and they do seem a little pricey.
However The New York Explorer Pass (CHOOSE 5) is around £80 on many sites but just seen for £57 which I think is a good price if you are planning on going to the top of the Rock etc

Surely its sunrise in the morning and sun set in the evening ;)

The first time we went to NY my attempt at romance failed miserably as I timed to be on the top of the rock about 20 mins before sunset, however with about 3 mins to go the skys fogged/smogged over and we saw nowt of the sun, ahh well the best laid plans and all that. However it was great staying up there and watching manhattan light up in the dusk, its still one of my favourite sight in manhattan,, along with crossing the birdge into manhattan and seeing "that" skyline

and, in 28 days time, i'll have landed, got through immigration, customs, got my taxi to the hotel, checked in, and by 4.21pm NYC time, (9.21pm uk time) i'll be in a pub having a pint no doubt (if the plane lands on time!)

I love that Not For Tourists series...but for my trip I took 'the hedonists guide to new york' - which lacked practical stuff but had the most amazing recommendations on eating (I'm a foodie) and drinking (my friends a big drinker)...

TOTR was amazing despite the huge queue :D - freezing cold in th wind though, but even though it was busy you got to see loads so well worth the admission price - I'd so do it again at night - I bet its great!!
