That's really sweet. I've seen that style of bird done in fabric before, but it looks really nice in crochet too.

My owls (click on pic for larger image)

I can't seem to follow any of the patterns for owls, so I made this up. Probably not original, but it feels like it is :D I don't think the ears on the smaller one look quite right :undecided

I'm not sure how to write a pattern properly, but this makes sense to me, lol. Where I've written 2 stitches on the same line, it means they go into the same stitch – is that the right way to write it? Happy to be put straight :D

I read a blog (which I can't find again!) that said to try the rounds slighty differently. Instead of counting the chain at the beginning of each round as the first tr, count it as the last instead. I tried it and my circles are much neater.

    Small owl
    Magic ring
3 chain then 11tr into ring
3 chain then 2tr into each stitch
    htr
    tr, dtr, 1 chain
    tr, htr
    2 sl st
    htr, tr, 1 chain
    dtr, tr
    htr
    sl st to finish

Eyes – 8 dc into magic ring, french knot in centre
    Beak is embroidered on

    Large owl
    Magic ring
3 chain then 11tr into ring
3 chain then 2tr into each stitch
3 chain, 1tr into 1st stitch, 2tr into next stitch, repeat all the way round
    htr
    tr
    tr, dtr, 1 chain
    tr, htr
    3 sl st
    htr, tr, 1 chain
    dtr, tr
    tr
    htr
    sl st to finish

Eyes – 3 chain then 11tr into magic ring, french knot in centre
    Beak is embroidered on

Ooo didnt know there was a crochet thread too!!
Hello... I have been crocheting since, well forever! My nana taught me to knit and crochet when I was very young. I have always knitted but the crochet, though I love it, I have never been able to follow a pattern. I obviously know all the stitches I just have no idea what they are called or how to follow a pattern! I have been looking on youtube and now I learn that there are USA and UK terms and both are different!!! Argh! Any advice at all would be appreciated! Its so much more 'portable' than knitting and I am sure its faster too!!
