A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Thanks FB for going to all this effort to keep us motivated.
    My entry should read £33,633.
I am still in the green with the current figure, and will probably hit year end target next month.
This wouldn't have happened without this challenge.

I have also re-submitted the update figure.

Well done to everyone who is still working on bringing their mortgage figure down.
  • Confession time - mortgage has been paid off today. Hopefully I am not too late for this (second) update to be included on the latest spreadsheet. I tried to hold out but eventually had to dig deeper into savings to deny the Halifax of their April payment.
Will send an updated Googledocs whatsit now.
I guess you can see that I don't post much (understatement) but I do follow everyone's progress. You all helped me do this (sorry about the Oscars moment here) thanks to FB and Maz for your devotion to the cause and to DD for a not small measure of inspiration.
  • Whoops - missed the update by one day!

I've submitted my update(s) now and hope that there will be a catch-up sheet published......

It's great to see how well people are doing.

Hugs to Captain Pie and best wishes to everyone else

  • Belated update for #77

Outstanding mortgage is now £138,215, right at the bottom of the table, deep in red. But then, we acquired a new home and a new mortgage half way through this journey - which we had not planned for in Jan.2010.

Thanks again for the efforts of FinancialBliss and inspiration from fellow MFWs. :-)
    Mortgage: @ Feb. 2007: £133,200; Apr. 2011: £24,373; May 2011: £175,999; Jun 2013: ~£97K; Mar. 2014 £392,212.73; Dec. 2015: £327,051.77; Mar. 2016: ~£480K; Mar. 2017 £444,445.74
  • Sorry Missed the update by one day.

Have just received an update from the building society. Current outstanding amount is £77K (although do have a 3K cheque to deposit, which should bring the total down a little).

Unfortunately still a little way of the target of £60K. My thinking is that the figure i will have at the end of 2012 is £65K (not a bad effort, but disappointed not to achieved my goal).

Thanks for the efforts FinancialBliss and good work everyone

  • Thank FB et al

I'm showing as red, but I haven't 'scored' my offset savings yet, so could change that in an instant! Also, OH is due back from Afghanistan on his R&R break at the end of the month and he's hardly been able to spend anything in the two-and-a-half months he's been away, so even his offset savings should increase significantly when he can do an on-line transfer! (There have to be some benefits to him being away - that and knowing the washing bin/washing up are just as I left them, not stacked up and waiting to be done!)

The kitchen's coming on and should be done for when he gets back, flooring going down (well, coming up, being re-levelled, then going down) next week, then my spends should be done for a while.

    Happy over-paying, everyone!

  • If I missed you yesterday, I've checked and applied the updates to chart 09, so you should be ok.

I've also cloned chart 09 to create chart 10:
    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?hl=en_GB&hl=en_GB&key=0AnhcWfGMRVgddGtzMTdvS1VnNXUwakpPc3NjZzRHMVE&single=true&gid=46&output=html

Starting to hard these damn things now. IMHO, the best part of the charts - the percentage colouring is actually the worst to do - you have to go into google docs and apply ranges to each cell you want to colour - there needs to be four conditions to get the red, yellow and green ranges, then this needs to be copied across the whole chart.

This then needs to be repeated for the summary chart too.

Still - I took on the challenge. Can't start complaining now.

Will get the first page of this thread updated in the next day or two to reflect current dates, links to charts etc.

In case you need a reminder, the next chart is 12th June.

Congratulations to Bearcat - will add into the mortgage free roll of honour!

    Mortgage-free Glee!
thanks fb. Well next update all going well would see us completing the challenge which was to get to a balance of about £16k, if we continue as we are we can clear the balance this year so I would like to officially change our target to become mortgage free during this challenge. I will update the form in june and leave a note on there to reflect this at that time. Well done everyone and thanks to fb and maz
Mortgage November 2003 was £135k, but thanks to this website on 28/08/12 we became MORTGAGE FREE!
Now just over 2 years we have taken on the challenge again! )(starting £237k Nov 2014) Current mortgage £232,399.82, current overpayment total £1550, years remaining= 17
