I'm amazed how well we seem to be doing. I predicted we should be at £26,250 to be on track for where we said we would be by this stage of the challenge. This balance is where I expected to be around the end of March next year, so I have increased my amount I am ahead by an extra 2 months since the last update, where I was 4 months ahead.
Pretty pleased we have been so succesful on one income, and will keep pushing on as much as we can before the next update.
A huge WELLDONE! You guys must really work hard at it and your dedication really pays off0 -
Thanks Curly girl.
In some ways, a bit of good luck as we were overpaying the tax man and the student loan company, so we got rebates from them, and we were underpaid by tax credits so got a rebate off them too. It has been hard not having the money in the first place, but as we survived, it made sense to pay it off the mortgage. I am also earning a fair old bit doing surveys and reviews, and all of this goes to the mortgage. I did over £300 my best month, but I can't keep it up indefinitely. Make the most of it while I can.0 -

Hi SMF2,
Hopefully any question you need answered is on page one of this thread - mention if it's not and I'll add.
With regard to the chart publication dates, see post #4 of this thread, here:

but as per the post from black taxi (thanks) - Monday 12th September.
Just got back from a short break earlier in the week - I'm intending to take a clone of the current chart 7 tomorrow so I can start putting the updates in from tomorrow onwards.

I keep missing the updates which is entirely my fault!
My mortgage is now £88,388.85 which is considerably less than on the currentl chart because I didn't update it (£95K).
I'm sure we will remain in the red though since although we are overpaying its not quite as much as originally intended.
I will aim for a on time update in December!Working Hard to be Debt Free - one day :A soonDFW Long Hauler 74; Mortgage overpayments MFiT-2 challenger 100Total Nov07 £36000, Sep10 £1623:o:)0 -
My new total is in my signature....off to update google docs.
I CANNOT wait to get below 30K! Wish it would happen faster though. My fixed rate deal runs out on 31st October and goes to the normal rate which is more than 1% off what we are currently paying. Very exciting. This is where I hope to start paying off the extra to get us back on target - I think we are slipping into the red this month! Hi there
I updated google docs the other evening. Not sure about anyone else but as I have mentioned previously, we are really being hit by the current financial climate. Our savings have reduced virtually to nil (well not quite but it is very very low compared to where it should be). I am worried that we are going into winter now with our fuel bill forecast to almost double.
Our food bills are soaring and our food waste is soaring too. This isn't just me in my area either, everyone I speak to at the moment is not happy. We buy food and the fruit and veg is rotting before we get a chance to use it. In some cases, fruit is rotten the morning after purchase but in most cases it is rotting within a couple of days. This is from a wide variety of sources too, all the major supermarkets have been tried and all of our local green grocers are producing the same results. In desperation I did my shopping at Waitrose yesterday. I will see how their fruit and veg holds up against the others. If it bears up better, I will switch to shopping from there all the time.
We've had a disastrous year for our home grown produce. The tomatoes are just flowering now with a couple of plants bearing very tiny very green fruit. The squashes (courgettes and the like) have barely produced anything. Maybe 20 usable pieces from more than 20 plants. Our 3 plums got got by wasps so next year I will net the tree to try and stop that happening. It's quite an immature tree so I hope to be able to harvest from it next year. Our pear tree is laden down. The boughs are nearly trailing on the ground! A couple of weeks and we ca start picking and eating the fruit. That will give us about 2 weeks worth of fruit though so I'm happyand it's a year or two older than the plum peach and apple trees so I would expect it to be into good production mode. I have 1 peach (very exciting- although inedible!) and hope for more. My blueberry bushes have all died off so 2 years of hard hard frosts have not made them happy.
I redid the front garden this week and was lucky to pick up 18 plants (3x 6 packs) from Asda one evening which had been left outside without water. They were utterly flat so got them to reduce them to £1.60 for all. The new compost cost me £12 for 3 massive bags and I've only used one so far. So for less than £20 I've had a massive garden makeover and will hopefully be able to really condition the soil ready for next year. Hopefully this will help our production!
Kind of a rambling post but thought I would try to put out there some of the ways we are trying to cut back and produce wealth for ourselves. Any over production of stuff is shared around and hopefully we get other stuff back from people in the form of swaps.Debt: 16/04/2007:TOTAL DEBT [strike]£92727.75[/strike] £49395.47:eek:   £43332.28 repaid 100.77% of £43000 target.MFiT T2: Debt [STRIKE]£52856.59[/STRIKE] £6316.14 £46540.45 repaid 101.17% of £46000 target.2013 Target: completely clear my [STRIKE]£6316.14[/STRIKE] £0 mortgage debt. £6316.14 100% repaid.0 -
Just posted a balance of £50104 on google docs...
....later this month we will be going sub the 50s and into the 40s :j:j:j:j:j0 -
Kaz couldn't read that and not post. I have not seen what you said about the fruit and veg we buy going off, but I have had hardly any food from the garden this year compared to normal. We bought some mini greenhouse cover things to put over the raised beds as I was worried we would have nothing. My tomatoes are there and green, but not really ripening, only one courgette off 5 plants, my garlic did ok, and we have some potatoes but not as many as normal. Hard with all the work we have done.
Let's keep fingers crossed for a milder winter.0 -
#90 reporting in for Sep-11....
I was made redundant last month, but got a reasonable payoff, so I have decided that for the time being I will continue to make over-payments on my mortgage and I allowed my standing order for £500 to go out at the start of the month. If I am still unemployed after Christmas I will have to stop OPing.
My plan was always to take a couple of months off, do some voluntary work, catch up on DIY/decorating and take a holiday, but if I do go back to work in the next couple of months I hope i will be able to make a lump sum payment off my mortgage.
We'll just have to see how things pan out. It is quite scary being unemployed as I have worked continuously for the last 25 years. Even after 3 weeks, I still don't think I have totally relaxed! Maybe I should get on and book a holiday!
Anywya, next month I should be under £60k outstanding on my mortgage, which will be great.
Off to update Googledocs now.....What goes around comes around.....I hope!0
