    Hi All

No.98 calling in with a balance of £9.5k

Unfortunately this hasn't changed since the last update, but on the plus side I've got a new car and the last mortgage payment should be in February... as long as I don't buy any more cars lol.

  • Hi All,

No 28 reporting in, new balance is now £35,710.

Mortgage less savings is an annoying £10,143.

Main annoyance is that the latter figure is being slaughtered by share prices jumping all over the place. No desire to sell at the moment as they are definitely worth more, so need to hold out a bit longer. We will still expect to achieve a zero overall balance on mortgage less savings within the challenge, decision will then be whether to get it paid and dumped.

Hoping to see some great progress by everyone, can't wait to see the latest overall figures for combined overpayment !!!

Just been looking at holidays :( MIL is paying for all 9 of us to go to Florida next year :D and I said we had to get it booked asap before prices go up. Everyone agreed yes lets do it nice and early like January  !!!!!!? So I've been trying to price it. I spent ages on it yesterday and MiL is coming round later today. The prices have risen by £900+ since yesterday. That's crazy.

Gosh! Are those package prices or are you pricing up the individual components?

I'm off to the US in a couple of weeks - We are spending 5 nights in NY (free accom in employers house), 3 nights in Washington (we're paying for this bit) and then 4 nights with Family in NJ.....despite all this free stuff I estimate that the holiday will still cost me £1600!! (ie for one person) We're not even going to be doing a lot in NY as we've done it all before and this is before we consider a theatre trip, and many of the things we want to do in Washington are free. I think costs in the US have risen considerably.

Anyway when I was booking flights I found that they went up and down an awful lot on a week by week basis. I read somewhere that the best time to book a flight is Wednesday AM - and indeed we did see flight prices rise at Weekends and Bank Holidays. In the end I got fed up of trying to work it all out and predict whether a rise was temporary or whether it was permenant. We booked well in advance and ended up paying about £100 more this year than for the same time last year on flights alone. Someone I know has just booked to go over at virtually the same time and has paid about £200 less - prices have come down! It really is a gamble.

When I was booking I used Quidco to get a little cashback. When I'm out there I will be using my Halifax Clarity Card to get best exchange on transactions.

I love this thread and although I'm not part of it just now, I'm really hoping that there's a new MFiT or similar thread started when this ends as I'll really be starting to focus on my mortgage then

    Hi lvm,
Feel free to request to join. There's a number of free slots after a tidy up - there's about 15 months left in the challenge - enough to find you feet before perhaps another 3 year challenge.

Post back here with a number or PM me and I'll add you in.

    @kaz / curlygirl1971

I spotted that yesterday too - if it's an overall increase of £900, that's still £100pp since you mentioned there are 9 of you.

We've now got a number of Florida brochues too, but won't be before the mortgage is cleared - being sensible for once.

Guess you'll have to just get the best value of of every purchase / item. We're still planning for 2013... :D

  • Is there a 3 year mortgage board after this one? just curious as i would like to join if so! :j
    £14, 500 to go
  • three year mfw was only set up---because financialbliss/ maz wanted to be MFW in 3 years

its taken a huge amount of work effort--so i cant see it happening.

there is a yearly one by cake--and even that one isnt garanteed.

you could set up mfw in 3 thread but without graphs/balances - everyone just says how much they hav to pay
