The Mortgage Free in Three - Take 2 challenge (MFiT-T2)

Thank you so much everyone who's offered me encouragement to stay today. I truly was overwhelmed by what I read. I was trying to to a bit of catch up as I've not really been on top of things since I started working - having both depression and Multiple Sclerosis ongoing led me to be absolutely exhausted and not up to much at all after work - and it just seemed as if the charts were the prime goal for many, that they were all people seemed to be going on about. More of a look at me and where I am on the charts rather than sharing and encouraging others. I will, for now, stay with the challenge but as I intimated in my original post, I cannot help but view these charts with extreme trepidation and what their ultimate effect on me and my improving situation might be.
For now though, thanks again peeps. I shall try to keep on keeping on as it says in my signature. Love to all and Happy New Year when it arrives xxStruggling too much wears a body out

Yey for you staying! :j As the others have said though...don't worry about it. As for the charts, I'm only comparing with myself. Although, since my OP's are the same every month by SO, it's irrelevant for me. Ha ha. I am in competition with myself to pay off 10K in 3 years. It's a small amount but all I can afford and EVERY LITTLE HELPS!
Don't worry about others, just focus on yourself and your goals. Good luck for the new year everyone...may everyone do as well or better in the new year!!Reduction in daily mortgage interest since October 23 (new mortgage) - £2.36 July 25

Hello Superfast_Gran - so good to see you back! I'd missed you since the original MFiT thread and all that happened there.
We're all up against our own challenges, and I don't think people are really comparing themselves with others, just spurring themselves on a bit. If I hadn't remarried someone with virtually no capital (but a decent income) and moved from my brilliant 2-bed flat to a fantastic 4-bed detached house (space for the 4 step-kids to stay as much as possible), I'd be totally MF by now. But life changes, and I now have a bigger, chunkier mortgage than ever to pay off. And lots of work to do on the house. I find my own depression much better now with lots of positive thinking - for me, I've studied some Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) which works wonders.
I've almost persuaded my OH to the MF way of thinking, though his version is "save into the offset so that I can have a gym/swimming pool/jacuzzi etc" - at least it offsets the mortgage balance in the meantime...
Happy New Year everyone - we've had a huge bonfire all day in the garden - wrapping paper and cardboard boxes from kids' presents turn out to be great for creating enough heat to dry out and subsequently burn loads of leaves and sticks that are covering the garden. Very therapeutic, and now ready for a New Year (but shattered, so planning to be fast asleep by midnight!).Mortgage Free thanks to ill-health retirement0 -
Superfast Gran
I think that we all need little boosts along the way, but they won't take the same form for everyone. Reminders of our progress and how far we have all come. Some people are singularly competitive, others love the team ethic we have here.
If you watch a marathon you will see some sprint off to a great start, others get their boosts from the cheering crowds, some when they see a familiar face, but all have the same aim, just different ways of getting there.
So here is my big old arm lifting you up. You can dust yourself down, and we'll all meet at the finish with our medals.

Superfast Gran I agree with the others - the charts ARE interesting, but they don't reflect personal circumstances so none of us take them seriously.
There is only one competition that really matters - and that is our personal one against the banks and building societies. We will all win that battle, some faster than others, but the main thing is we WILL win that competition. Please don't drop out.

Quote of the year gallygirl. Supergran, I feel I am to blame as I requested these charts. Apologies if I have put you through any unneeded stress.12/12/12 Lets party!:beer:0 -
Ok so here is something I just realised. My fixed rate of 5.35% ends in October....it was very much needed at the time for surety. I have no idea what to do with the mortgage when this runs out! OMG....help! :rotfl: I really am useless. We don't have lots of savings and we already OP over what our fixed rate cost is because our mortgage in real terms is actually quite small.

Supergran im glad you decided to stay, like you im not in the top 50 either but i am not interested in that, whilst i browsed and thought well done to all in the top 50 i also thought of the rest of us that are paying whether it be £5 a month or £500 a month and every little helps, at least you know now how the charts make you feel and not need to look at them in the future only look at the one that is important that we are all in this together and all doing our bit towards our individual mortgages, i do hope you feel better soon and 2011 brings you all and everyone else they wish for£14, 500 to go0

I'm absolutely blown away by the responses to my first post today. Thank you so much everyone - give yourselves a glass of wine on me for the New Year. Here's hoping we all surpass ourselves even if by only a small amount. Go guys go! (I must admit to having had a few glasses of happy juice!!) XXX
