The Mortgage Free in Three - Take 2 challenge (MFiT-T2)

The charts are a great motivation, I like that I make the percentage charts now
Its a difficult one on judging them, is true how much is paid off is related to your situation but also true that how tough a challenge you have set yourself depends on how you come up in the percentage one, either way any motivation is good motivation. I did consider slightly upping my official challenge to clear the mortgage but if I did over the 3 years I'd be officially behind at this point and I don't think I can face going into the red and sliding down the percentage charts, I will still aim to clear it for the deadline but not 'officially'...is that cheating??
Mortgage November 2003 was £135k, but thanks to this website on 28/08/12 we became MORTGAGE FREE!
Now just over 2 years we have taken on the challenge again! )(starting £237k Nov 2014) Current mortgage £232,399.82, current overpayment total £1550, years remaining= 170 -

50K in 1 year is AWESOME!!
I just wanted to state, for the record, that 'Awesome' is not part of my real-life every day volcabulary. If I knew RT in real-life and she told me of their massive achievement I think I would exclaim 'Wow, that amazing'. But not unless I had been taking drugs would I shoot from the hip 'AWESOME' as if I was Bill & Ted's new bessie mate.0 -
Doh! I get told off for saying AWESOME all the time. I'm 29 and I think living in the US after uni was the cause. Whenever I get back to the UK after visiting the US (where I am now) my work mates ban me from using it pretty quickly! It is an AWESOME word though! Ha ha haReduction in daily mortgage interest since October 23 (new mortgage) - £2.36 July 25
% of house owned/% of mortgage paid off. July 25 - 38.82%/31.66%

Thanks but should point out that there are a 2 RT's a Mr and Mrs !!!
"Awesome" also assumes that a guitar riff is heard in the background every time the word is used - that would be real Bill and Ted !!!:rotfl:RosieTiger - Highest £242,000 Feb 2004

Sorry to say but I find the thought of these charts off putting and realise it's probably just me because most folks seem to like them. However, it just seems a bit too regimented to me turning the challenge into more of a competition as to who can get the highest on the charts. Not the kind of thing I need where I am with my depression: it will just take me back down into the depths when I see how poorly I'm doing as opposed to others. It's taking the joy out of being part of the challenge and also removing the good feeling when you get encouragement even though you're not paying off as much as others.
With that in mind, I'm withdrawing from this challenge as I can't cope with it as it's become. I'm sitting here in tears because this had been part of my increasing forward motion in all aspects. I do wish everyone good luck even though I realise without the support from this site I will not make as much of an effort on my own.
This is not the challenge I signed up for. It was more about encouragement and congratulations when people needed it. Not a competition to see who could do the best, the quickest. It's so spoiled for me now and more like a rat race!Struggling too much wears a body out

superfast gran-please don't cry and please don't withdraw from the challenge, i found the charts interesting but i'm not hellbent on being top-for one, finances wouldn't allow, and secondly, I just want to pay my mortgage off as fast as i can within the realms of my abilities. i see the challenge as incentive to make more effort than a race as to who is best, top etc. My take on this challenge is that we are all here to support each other.
Continued good luck in your quest to reduce your mortgage hun. ((((hugs))))GE 36 *MFD may 2043

you dont have to look at these charts superfast gran. its not a competition, we are all individuals trying our best with massively different budgets/ life circumstances. and by the way a massive well done on your progress so far, its hard what we are all doing make no mistake about it. Just stick in there and we will all get there.Mortgage free:beer:

Lots of things have happened since I last posted but not much in the way of mortgage overpayments. Hopefully that is about to change.
Forgive me if I've already posted some of this but couldn't figure out how to find my very last post - duh  In July, thanks to an old school friend, I done got myself a J.O.B. It started off as full time but long story short changed to part-time and then had those hours reduced even further. Major triumph for me after almost 3 years of depression, big operation, yada yada yada. The depression is still here but managed. We tried putting the house on the market again but 6 months on we've not had so much as one viewing and we've no cash flow to keep it up for sale.
So! Back to the challenge in earnest.
We still have a chunk of CC debt but the money that I keep earmarking for it seems to get spent so we're going to have to think again and re-assess where we go from here. I will update the figures in my signature today and we'll just go from there.
Hey Superfast - great to hear from you. Loving your signature update - Many congratulations on what you have achieved especially in light of the fact that you've been battling depression. Many best wishes for the New Year - I hope very much that we continue to hear from you - it's updates like yours that help me keep plodding on. I've only made small dents in my mortgage but every penny counts!0 -
Superfast Gran I agree with the others - the charts ARE interesting, but they don't reflect personal circumstances so none of us take them seriously.
There is only one competition that really matters - and that is our personal one against the banks and building societies. We will all win that battle, some faster than others, but the main thing is we WILL win that competition. Please don't drop out.
