  • I mean per month, gosh if I spent that every week my hubby would go mad! I spend about £5 a week in local market on fruit, salad & veg (although I do get some in with my monthly shop too) but that is all I get extra really.

So thats £15 per week plus the £5 on extras goodness! how do you do that? If you have any good tips I'd be very interested to lear them. Do you do your own baking n things? Is this just for food or for everything like household stuff t rolls washing powder ect?
    Thanx

  • I very rarely bake, I would't really know where to start lol.
I use Tesco's Value range for most things, or I go for Buy 1 Get 1 Free offers on branded goods as sometimes it's cheaper. I buy larger items where possible, largest box of washing tablets (Tesco Own Brand NOT Value!), largest box of cereal (again I don't get the value as the value cornflakes are awful!) etc. I don't buy crisps, sweets or fizzy pop - plenty of fruit & either squash or fresh orange juice (Tesco's Value Orange Juice is only 38p a litre!) Tesco Premium Teabags (red box) are £3.17 for 480 - that's less than 1p per teabag! I don't know any of the branded one's less than that!
I wait until the cupboards/fridge/freezer are nearly empty before shopping as then you use up the odd bits left (we are a family of 3 so usually if there is 4 in a box of something then they is 1 left which we will do at the end of the month.)
And yes that includes everything - washing tablets, fabric conditioner, shampoo's etc ...

I'm going to have a serious attempt to get my bill down then, I don't know if I'll be able to get down that low but I'm sure I'll be able to decrease it :)
    Thanx

I reckon you need to have a wander around the 'money saving old style'board for lots of hints and tips on how to save on your shopping bill. Here's a couple of threads to get you started but be warned, you'll get hooked :D

Hope that helps a bit :D
Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...
  • Both hubby & DD have packed lunches, usually a sandwich - ham salad, cheese salad or tuna & cucumber/sweetcorn, some fruit, hubby has water & DD has squash in a small pink flask which came with her lunchbox. I usually have a sandwich & fruit or yoghurt at home with fresh juice.
We go through a lot of salad & fruit so I tend to buy this weekly otherwise it goes off, I've just got 2 punnets of strawberries for £1 from a local shop today which will make a lovely pudding tomorrow with either sugar or ice cream.

That is Fantabulous.. Where do u live to get such good prices?

We dont get those prices even in local markets..
  • I live in Huddersfield, this is from a little shop near the bus station which although I don't buy all my salad/fruit there I do tend to have a look at the stock outside the shop as this is often really cheap.
