these big chain places are well know for failing cars where they shouldnt and charging crazy prices for the work to repair it

look up a council run mot station...they have no intrest in making repairs so you get a fair test

Post your location as well,as there may be someone who lives nearby who have used a garage that is reasonable.

And do post EXACTLY what they are suggesting it failed on.

I personally don't know why people use these rip off merchants, instead of sourcing a good garage locally.I would much rather put pound notes into a local one man band's pocket, than line the shareholders pockets of these modern day !!!!!! Turpins.

Yes but they are also go strictly by the rule book.

    eg. Headlight need adjusting, failed.

Decent garage - Headlight slightly out, adjusted.

I've just had a look on line at Carparts Direct there are plenty of other car part suppliers,
For the front the discs are 28.99 and the pads 17.99.
For the back the discs are 37.99 and the pads 23.99.
Total for parts just over £100
CHeck it out with a couple of other suppliers make sure i'm looking at the right model.
AS others have said this is'nt a difficult job, anyone that is a bit handy would get it done in a day.
Somewhere that may be worth a look, a local college, when they are teaching students they are always looking for proper work for them to learn on.
It may be the hairdressing dept giving cheap hair dos', the catering dept offering nice meals or if they have an engineering course they want cars to practise on. Whatever it is you can be guaranteed to get a good job, the teachers stand over them to make sure they don't mess up.
Must be worth a phone call. or two.

Update, I was speaking to a colleague at work about my car repair bill, he recommended a friend who runs a family garage, I phoned them and they volunteered to look at my car.

    Went during my lunch period.

Result = car PASSED MOT no work required at all.

I mentioned about the issues the previous garage stated, in fact I showed them the MOT failure certificate, the guy was astounded, I explained whilst the money is an issue the safety of my car is more important, he assured me my car is safe for another 12000 miles.

I'm not going to detail here the faults listed by the original garage for fear of being identified, but if someone can tell me who I complain to, I'll take it up with them.

I'm shocked at what the original garage tried to get away with, had I have had the money I would have paid the £700.00 bill without doubt.

That £700.00 bill consisted of "Advisory" work and immediate work.

A bill from £700.00+ reduced to £50 for an MOT and passing.

I never slept last night worrying how I was going to find the money, I'll sleep alot happier tonight.
