MOT Failure

Do you trust the place that you took it to? If so do you think that you might be able to get fixed somewhere else cheaper? If you haven't got £700 pounds then I suppose that the value of the car if it didn't have these problems may be important. Obviously with the repairs needed you will not get as much for it but someone might be able to do the repairs themselves and give you a reasonable amount, not sure if this would be enough to buy another car.
MSEers will probably need a few more details so you will get the best advice. £700 seems a lot for brakes etc. It depends what the etc is.0 -

Thx for replies, I'm kinda stressed right now the paperwork is at home which I'll post up in the morning.
My car is a Vectra 1.8 year 2000.
The garage mentioned about the front break pads and something about the rear break discs being completly worn, tbh, I've no idea about cars, I've had this car almost 5 years and it's allways passed it's MOT, but I guess that means nothing.
Due to me being on a DMP (Debt management plan) credit is out of the question for another car, god I'm so stressed, my MOT expires on Sunday, I forgot about it, when I had it done last year, I asked about extending it for the month as I was a month early for it's MOT, sadly I was a month and 2 days early.Click here for Martins (MSE) advice on who to contact with Debt Issues - YOU HAVE NO REASON TO USE A FEE PAYING DEBT MANAGEMENT COMPANY- THEY CANNOT DO ANYMORE FOR YOU THAN THOSE LISTED IN MY LINK ABOVE.

just out of intrest where was it mot'd? not quik fit by any chance?
i think you should be able to have front and rear discs /pads done cheaper than £700 , if they failed they must be quiet a state and not safe anymore0 -
I'm going to post up when I get home, I'm at work right now, I'm not after anyones sympathy, but I earn just above the minimum wage, there's no way I've got £700.00 to spare.
Please do post the full fail sheet when you get home. Brake discs and pads aren't even going to come to much more than £100 in parts of that to do all four corners plus a couple of hours labour fitting them.Conor

My 23 year old Capri goes straight through MOTs with nothing more than regular servicing. All of my cars over the past decade have gone virtually straight through MOTs even though most of them have been sub £500 bangers, virtually all with no less than 100,000 miles.
If you service them as they're supposed to be and keep on top of repairs instead of letting them buildup, you'll have no problem.
If the OP's car has indeed failed on pads and discs, it could have all been avoided by servicing the car properly in the first place and that would have definitely meant that the discs wouldn't have had to be replaced.Conor
