Faster Payments - is there a problem or is LLoyds just incompetent?

Faster payments have been with us now for nearly a year and I have had no problems with making such payments using either Natwest or Halifax online systems but still I am unable to make such online faster payments with LLoyds; instead I have to ring up.

Lloyds claim there is a problem with faster payments hence the fact that they don't offer this service but is there?

Also today I have discovered that a payment, using the faster payment service, made on 31st December was made without the reference to the payee and as a result have been on the phone for most of the morning trying to sort it out. Admittedly I eventually got through to a very nice man which sorted it out for me as well as giving me a late payment charge refund without asking, but he did say that faster payments sometimes do go through without references on them.

Is this true or was it just an error by Lloyds in the first place?

Since Lloyds started FP in the summer it has been hit and miss - I managed to send money online a couple of times and then that stopped working - for the last few months I have managed to send it by phoning up but then tried again in December and a couple of times they said it was not working and then just before the new year they only allowed me to send £500 when the previous limit was £10000!!It really does seem to be hit and miss
PS I think they can go through without a reference unless you specify one but not absolutely sure
    Keep the Faith:cool:
  • I can't help wondering if the problems with LLoyds is in someway connected with the takeover of the Halifax!

With regards to a reference, they were claiming that a payment made through the FP method can sometimes 'lose' the reference, which doesn't instill confidence although I think it was operator error personally and they didn't want to admit it!

Sounds like a load of old flannel doesn't it?

When you consider that SOs and bill payments set up years ago are now going through FP .... then the record format is basically the same as that used for BACS payments. So why would it suddenly drop off the odd Ref number when it didn't for BACS...... and only, apparently, for the Bank where you rely on a remote operator to put it in for you?? ;)

    .... think I'd agree.

Here's the APAC's link with a sort code checker and some quite useful information.

I'm with FD and they seem to manage faster payments quite happily

I think this is just a Lloyds thing - god knows what's gone wrong with their implementation.

    No problems with ours...
    What would William Shatner do?

Yeah, I do wonder. How come Barclays, HSBC and NatWest/RBS (who were ready to go full throttle from day one!) can do FPS already, but Lloyds are still having trouble? How halfarsed does it have to be?
  • I was annoyed by this too. I read on some documentation somewhere that to use FP you have to call telephone banking. It doesn't do it via internet banking.

    Bye bye Lloyds :p
  • Bank of Scotland's FP's are fine, its lloyds that are mucking about.

Lloyds better not take over the FP side of things when they join up by the sounds of it...

Full integration will take years and years, hopefully by which time their problems will be resolved.

Be thankful you have a half baked system, those of us with Cahoot, Abbey, Nationwide don't have _any_ FP system!

    Cheers, Des.
