It's also repeated tonight on TV at 7pm
Luck, I taped it so I could show kids at school, but DH erased it last night, before I saw it

Thank's to OP for telling me about this.I thoroughly enjoyed it.As did hubby who loves anything historical.
As I watched her doing her washing in the poss tub,I thanked god for my washing machine.
I remember an old lady,a friend of my grandmother's who still used one of these back in the early 1970's.Her house had no electric, she cooked on an old range. She was in her 80s at the time and had never ever used an electric machine. Her whites were always sparkling white and all she had was her poss tub, hand mangle(wringer) and a pot boiler. The kind you made a fire under in the wash house.I remember trying that poss tub as a teenager and did'nt last long.It was tough work I can tell you.
How easy we have it these days.0 -
This is a good one too. I may have already mentioned it on the wartime thread so sorry for repeating myself. I think it was a regional programme (East Anglia). It's well worth watching. It has farming and cookery on.0

I thought the programme was ok - the information presented was very good and interesting - but it wasn't clear just how much help they were getting or going to get from outside sources. We saw one meal - they'd been there weeks by then so what were they eating and where? Where were they getting their water from? At what point does the outside world go away and they are left to fend for themselves so we can truly get an idea of what it was really like? I guess with only six episodes they can't really put a huge amount of detail in each episode, which is a shame.
Looking forward to seeing the rest of the series though.
For me, The 1900 House is still right up there as one of the most accurate portrayals of life in that era."carpe that diem"0 -
I wondered the same thing, they did say that they were sleeping somewhere else on the estate which actually disappointed me a bit, I thought they were going to really live like Victorians for a year.Dum Spiro Spero0

I was fascinated by this excellent programme and will look forward to seeing the remainder of the series. We have a lot to be thankful for with all our modern day household appliances and technology. But what a strange difference in the quality of educational programmes being produced. A couple of days ago I watched the first of the new series of "It's not Easy Being Green" programmes, and found it so dumbed down and childish that even a 12 year old would have felt insulted by the silly graphics and the banal "celebrity interview" part of the programme.0

It's not a reality show like the Victorian House so this won't happen.
When they first planned the Green Valley series it was going to be that type of show - we know someone who was asked to be the housemaid - but I'm glad they changed the style of the show. I think we get a better look at the methods and technology of the time without having all the personal stuff.0 -
I'm glad it isn't a reality show. I just want to see how things were done as authentically as possible. I want to be informed and entertained but not made to watch people cry, argue and throw tantrums. It's about the history not the people making the programme and that's a good thing.0

If you liked the Victorian Farm programme you may also be interested in a farm programme currently showing on Animal Planet called 'Farm Life' - sort of modern day farming but organic so kind of old fashioned. It is quite amusing. Not sure if anyone else has seen it, I know not everyone has Sky, but its better than most of the dross on at that time of night.
It is on 7pm, and it seems to be going through the months so there is still a few episodes to get through.0 -
I've just watched the programme and found it fascinating:T I live about half an hour away from Acton Scott and have visited it several times over the years and its always a brilliant day out.
I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.Do what you love :happyhear0
