It's on BBC2 just now so I'll try to find out for you.
Edit: yes, it was fidget pie, the subtitles spelled it as 'fitchet' pie. Looked lovely. There are lots of hits on Google for Shropshire Fidget Pie but they seem to use shortcrust pastry instead of the suet pastry used on the programme. I'm sure you could improvise though.
Anyone making the brawn? Don't think I'd be brave enough even if I could get hold of a pig's head! Loved her idea of using an eyeball as a centrepiece!Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

thanks everyone.
i like the idea of the suet pastry, but i do like to also experiment so will do some reasearch now i have a name to google.
the brawn just turned my tummy, but when it was served with crusty chunky bread i could see how it would of been appealing to the hard working farmers who had been working dawn till dusk. but i think i'll pass at making it.0 -
i've been watching the series victorian farm (on last night ) i love it. last night they made a pie for the may day celebration's. it has potatoes, onion and bacon, poss other items. and the pastry was made with suet and the liquid was hot. the farmers wife said pies used to have to have pastry which stood up own.
I've known it as Fitchet PieI've searched several recipes, and all, such as this one, use shortcrust. No reason why you can't use a hot-water suet crust, though
As this has fallen from the front page of OS, I'll add it to the existing Victorian Farm thread.
