I've just seen a copy of the book for sale on ebay for about £20 including p&p, but its still available at thebookpeople for £7.99
and the only connection I have with thebookpeople is as a customer... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

..You know the most amazing thing about this prog. and this lifestyle to me ?? It's all FREE. No elect bills, no coal to buy, no petrol and no shopping !
Also compare their job satisfaction to ours ... doing what they did v sitting in a traffic jam for 2 hours a day/ putting up with a horrible boss for hours/stopping off at tescos/picking up kids then blahblahblah ! No comparison !0 -
I watched the programme for the first time last night, brilliant! Just mad now Ive probably missed loads.
You can still watch the first two episodes on i-player. My DD1 and I have been watching it. DH didn't watch the first episode, but was using the computer in the same room - and has watched the other two, so it must have intrigued him :rotfl:.
I googled the cottage to see how much it costs to stay there. The cheapest is over £400 for a week - rising to over £800 in the summer :eek: It does sleep 5 though apparently - there are actually three bedrooms in there.0 -

But it wasn't 'free' - few people owned their own houses, they paid rent which may have included the right to take firewood. Coal would still have had to be purchased by those living in the town. And how much land would be needed just to support a 'self sufficient' family of 4? A horse alone needs at least an acre, plus land for cultivating those feed beets plus forage of hay or chaff. And then there's the basket maker and blacksmith who would need paying (or at least something to barter with). Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0

Brick dust as an abrasive. I've never heard of that one. Now I'm just going to have to find a brick and grind it down!
I must admit being a vegan I found preparing the pig a bit revolting, especially as I have a phobia for eyes too which didn't help.0 -
I wish they'd learn to handle a horse with a bit more sympathy - poor lad was really lame, and making him twist a tight circle in the field can't have done it any good. I'd have been yelled at good and proper for making a sound horse move off like that, let alone one that was lamePlease forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0
